I reached this hotel where I was supposed to spend the night after a particularly trying journey from North Carolina. After everything that had happened an extended-stay room seemed almost luxurious. It had a kitchen, complete with stove, refrigerator, and burners, which appeared to indicate that the establishment understood the fundamental concept of an extended stay: namely, that people who remain somewhere for several days may occasionally wish to prepare food rather than conduct a grim culinary tour of every nearby drive-through. There was, however, one curious omission. There was not a single plate. There were no forks, no spoons, no knives, and, unless one considers the human hand an eating utensil, absolutely nothing with which to use the kitchen that had been so proudly installed. I remain fascinated by this interpretation of hospitality. If I am expected to travel with my own plates, forks, and cooking utensils, I begin to wonder what precisely distinguishes an extended-stay suite from a very expensive room with several strategically placed appliances and a great deal of optimism. The stove was there. The refrigerator was there. The burners were there. Apparently the hotel simply assumed every guest arrives carrying a small kitchen in the trunk, which, given the week I was having, was not the most unreasonable assumption anyone had made. At checkout, the person at the front desk was borderline rude and absolutely not friendly.

Look for something else. We stopped here for an overnight stop on our road trip to Oregon. Location was close to a freeway entrance but no restaurants or sites. The room and amenities were terribly disappointing.
