At MainStay Suites Edinburg South, guests frequently praise the friendly staff, convenient location, and in room kitchenettes, while feedback is mixed on cleanliness and maintenance, with recurring reports of musty odors, pests, and dated interiors alongside some clean, comfortable stays.

Amenities like the pool, hot tub, BBQ area, and gym are appreciated, though several reviews cite maintenance issues such as an out of service elevator on the MainStay side and occasional pool cleanliness concerns. Had a mini kitchen if we wanted to cook. Quiet throughout the stay. Enjoyed the pool and hot tub. There was very little musty smell. Negatives were breakfast was just okay (scrambled eggs and beans) and the juice machine was broken, and the elevator on that side of the hotel was out of service.

Area was safe, Breakfast was good, the only issue I had was that they took almost 2 months to give me back my deposit & the only reason I got it back was because I kept calling them asking why I hadn’t received it yet & finally someone at the front register gave me the email for the manager to get it settled & I received it 2 days later. Other than that everything was good oh and the pool had bbq pits so we got to bbq so that was great

The stay was just ok our room had mildew smell. and carpets were dirty. bathroom room when we put the mat down and it got wet the floor was unbelievably dirty. The pool and hot tub had way to much bleach in them I got in with black shorts and grey shirt and came out with them totally bleach. the black is now grey and the grey is all kind of colors. my sterling sliver wedding rings came out black. and I have to pay to have them cleaned. so I was very unhappy with our stay.

The property is dated. The door in the restroom was pealing, and there was mold in the grout of the shower. They required a $100 deposit when we arrived at the property which is unheard of. I would not stay here again.

We checked in and the young man receptionist was very accommodating. We went to our room and everything was worn down and did not appear to be clean at all. It had a terrible musty/moldy smell. The ac units had visible mold. He apologized and gave us another room and the same thing. We were ready to check out and count it as a loss but then he put us on the 3rd floor which was a little better but still not ideal. I went to the store and picked up sanitary wipes and a Lysol air spray to clean the entire place. They claim the smell comes from the pool but the ac units had visible mold on them and the vents and coils were so bad. I took pictures of the ac unit. It is a health issue for anyone. When you walk in the entry door by the pool you have to hold your breath due to the smell. Sadly to say, we will not be staying again, and I now second guess the reviews along with Comfort Inns in general.

The first time we stay here we were given the key for a room that already had someone in it so we got upgraded to a better room, this time we got ask for a $100 dls deposit and the room was not clean the sheets had blood stains on it. Try to call front desk the phone from the room did not work. Called from my cellphone and the guy made us go down the lobby toget new sheets. The room felt really dirty.

I was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley and was visiting due to a family members healthy. The Valley is known for a proud tradition of friendliness and pride in the work done. This hotel does not live up to that. The drawers in the room were filthy, as was the entire air conditioner making it hard to cool the room evenly. There were cobwebs in corners and the tub had huge growths of mildew. If I had to assume it would be the hotel is short staffed; cleaning crew to the front desk. I wouldn’t waste the money when there are much nicer hotels I found in the same area.
