King room was large and had a comfortable bed (although it opens to the interior light well rather than exterior walls), simple continental breakfast offerings were good.

The hotel is old, and that could have been part of its charm, but it is just too run down. They have interesting art in the hallways, so they are clearly pointing in the right direction. The location is fabulous, The staff was fine and the bed was fine. The room was not fine. I’m guessing they don’t have money to update it (replace carpeting, curtains, etc), or that they don’t want to remodel the bathrooms because the fixtures are original, but our bathroom was just not functional in terms of its layout (door hits toilet, in order to shower over the nice stand-alone tub you were expected to draw the old yucky looking shower curtains to the interior of the tub which meant they were touching you, even as a normal sized person) There was a very musty, old person smell to the room. It just didn’t work for me. My boyfriends hotel choosing privileges have been permanently suspended.

Hotel was ok. Town Square out in front, had homeless and vagrants. Didn't feel comfortable parking car overnight. Not many restaurants.

I was pleasantly surprised with the property and location. It is right on the Arcata plaza. It’s a very nice down town area with lots of shops and restaurants all in walking distance of the hotel. The hotel itself is charming and well kept. I felt very fortunate to have found the Hotel Arcata last minute at the start of the Labor Day weekend on my drive up the coast. The parking is free and easy. The breakfast is included and very simple. The room clean but a little noisy from the busy street below.

Step back in time. It's like going back a century. This property is a well-maintained example of an early 20th century hotel. The staff is very helpful.
