What guests think

At American Inn and Suites Ionia, travelers frequently praise the welcoming staff and convenient location, while feedback is mixed on aging rooms and overall cleanliness, producing very different experiences depending on which room guests receive.

Guests cite dated carpeting, small or worn bathrooms, TV issues, and occasional strong odors such as smoke, marijuana, or pet smells in halls or rooms. Pool and hot tub experiences range from warm and relaxing to dirty water, nonworking jets, or closures noted by some. A few reviews mention noise from thin walls and sporadic security or maintenance concerns, including a back door not locking and staff entering a room unannounced. The rooms were clean with fluffy pillows. Air conditioning worked great. Good working refrig in our room. Didn't use the single serve coffee or microwave. No clocks or phone in our room. The pool & hottub had dirty water. Free brkfst was so so. Coffee & juices were flavorless. Very friendly employees

The staff was great, it was a little rundown and noisy. We had someone above us that was extremely noisy. The pool was a little bit cool, but other than that it was ok.

Our tv wouldn’t turn on- which is a repeat of our previous visit with them. They were booked and couldn’t move us so she credited our room $10 🙄. We had two rooms and one was double charged- waiting on that to come off. They say there’s no deposit so what’s the extra charge? The hot tub isn’t working and looks gross. The pool was great except for some slimy spots at the bottom of pool in areas. The pool towels are only big enough for an 8 yr old though. The beds are very firm and also tip over if you sit on one side 😂 and I’m your avg sz 12 woman lol. Continental bkfst is nice, the property is pretty clean.

Overall good stay. Large comfortable rooms with nice TV, couch, comfortable king bed, good lighting, good AC, quiet, lots of eating options close by. Things that need improving: back exterior door B hinge broken and the door would not close and securely lock. Front desk said the card reader was hit by lightening and it doesn’t work. Many remodeling items like a mattress, lamps, flooring etc piled up by exit door, large construction vehicles and trailers lined up in back parking lot. All that being said, I’ll probably stay here again.

Cleanliness

Cleanliness is inconsistent: many report clean rooms, while others note dirty or worn carpets, dust and stains, strong odors (smoke, marijuana, pets), pests like ants or stinkbugs, and a rare bed bug report.

I arrived an hour and a half early and staff was able to accommodate early check in at no extra cost. The hot water is AMAZING. The towels are nice and big. Desk for work was large and the chair comfortable. The hallway smelled like dog pee sometimes but other than that - it was a great stay and would definitely stay again. Oh and the complimentary pancakes were delicious!

Nobody up front to check us in had to call to have someone come up apparently the woman was fixing a toilet??? Isn’t that for maintenance to do? Went around to the back door closest to our room and there was some woman in a car with a child in the backseat looked like up to no good. Proceeded to our room, the hallway smelled of something undetectable my son opened his door and the room smelled like 1000 cigarettes went to my room and it smelled like gyros coming out of the vents put all of our belongings back in the car for fear of theft never even stayed drove 4 hours back home that night. Don’t do it!!!

Dirty rooms, stinkbugs in the room. When I told the Manager, she told me that they were aware of the problem. She said at least it wasn't any other kinds of BUGS! For $125.00 a night I would think No BUGS would be expected. Not happy at all.
