the room was a bit dated and worn, but clean and in overall good condition, the bed was comfortable and the kitchenette was really helpful. My room was near the restaurant on the corner, so the nights were quite loud, between just general music and voices, there was also some drunken yelling after closing. Nothing the hotel can do about that, but its notable if thats something that will disturb your stay- ask for a room in a different part of the facility. The lack of AC (which was clearly identified) was difficult on a very hot weekend, so I thank the staff for adding an extra fan in the room to make it bearable.

The property is in a great location, walkable to many of Pacific Beach beaches, pier, shops and restaurants. It's definitely an older property, so don't expect a modern hotel. It does have A/C, which is a big plus, since it was quite hot when we were there. We asked for beach towels, and instead of giving us a couple, they pointed us to a store that had $20 towels. For the amount paid, and since it's on the beach, I'd have expected that they would check-out a couple towels to us (then they said the white towels in the room must stay in the room). We were in the secondary building, which has a deck outside each room, but the view is to the back of a restaurant and trash cans, so not the most scenic.

If you are looking for a little of the Venice (in LA) vibe but would rather be in beautiful San Diego, the Beach Cottages is the place to go. Older property but well maintained and very clean this "right on the sand" option is for you. We stayed in one of the one bedroom cottages and it was just a great place to hang out. We walked to several good restaurants, and did spa treatments all within one block. The property does a great job of providing outdoor showers (to get rid of the sand), plenty of ice, a full kitchen, lots of clean towels, shampoo / conditioner / and body wash. They tell you no air conditioning but the breeze was so cooling we would not have used it even if available. Remember to bring your own beach towels and enjoy!

Wonderful location. Steps away from the beach and several restaurants. Only negative was that the building is older and no air conditioning. It was very warm in our room at night (ceiling fans and a floor fan helped). Easy in and out parking.
