The property has recently changed ownership. That was apparent with the lack of welcome upon arrival and the poor bar/dinner service. The first impression is a good one as the lobby area is quite attractive and in keeping with a property of this era. However, the sleeping corridors are very depressing. Some renovation has occurred in the guest rooms. More updating is necessary, including that of bathroom fixtures. We did not use the spa services. At checkout when asked how our stay was, I shared my opinions. I did not get the woman’s name, but she seemed to take the constructive criticism well and appreciated hearing my thoughts. The lodge has a unique location as it is situated at the end of Avenue of the Giants. I hope the new owners will honor the history and charm of what used to be.

The room was great. I couldn’t use the shower or tub as I am older and it did not have handrails and neither did the toilet which was very low. The memory foam bed was too squishy and not good support. The nearest place to eat was 5 miles away. Beautiful old historical building. Quiet and safe.

Our room at Scotia Lodge was listed on hotels.com as being a 9.8 so I jumped to book it. Boy were we hustled on this one. I would give it a 6.2. No air conditioning we walked into our room and a fan was blowing in front of an open window with no screen. It was over 85 degrees. Outside our window was a yard piled up with trash. Bugs flying through the window. My asthma started up as soon as we climbed the carpeted stairs to our room #217. It appears they don't vacuum very well. I commented to my wife that this looks like the hotel in the movie The Shining with Jack Nicholson. Great Lobby though!
