I was riding the Erie Canalway Trail from Buffalo to Albany. This hotel is right off the trail, and there are good restaurants in easy walking distance. If you're riding the trail, this is THE place to stay in that area. My only wish is that they had a guest laundry, but no big deal

Definitely lots to like: spacious rooms, comfortable bed, great shower and towels, noise-free ac units. The WiFi reception was terrible - exceptionally slow, which was a real inconvenience. The hotel is a bit out of the way with limited spaces in the parking lot. Lighting in the rooms wasn't the greatest.

The Amsterdam Castle is a renovated armory! The renovations were done with efficiency and comfort in mind. Every space has purpose to enlarge the room experience. We loved the decor that made us feel that we were living in a castle. Outside the appointments make you feel that you have stepped back to the days of King Arthur! The great room eating area follows this tradition as well. The location in Amsterdam, about 26 miles west of Albany was close enough to the capital but offered other adventures: Erie Canal trail! The parking was tricky just go around the back and avoid the steep entry way. We highly recommend the stay and experience!

This place is great. If you are riding the bike trail I highly recommend it. Great Italian restaurant on the trail. Lorenzo’s! Nice garage to store bike. Rooms are perfectly clean with coffee snacks water etc.

Restaurant was closed (said they were in need of hiring a chef). Unsafe to walk anywhere! No real viable places in the immediate area to get coffee/food. Overall it seemed clean but the longer you’re there you start to see the lack of cleanliness. Didn’t ask for me for ID or any credit card upon checkin. Didn’t ask anything upon checkout. Seemed like no one really knew what they were doing. Would never stay there again. Our room was large and suited our needs but not worth the amount of money I paid.

We stayed one night at the castle while on our way up to Montreal. This place blew us away with its uniqueness and extreme cleanliness. Our kids were so happy to walk into a castle with such an amazing presentation. Our room was extremely spacious and comfortable. The staff were so friendly. The outside was equally beautiful with views of the surrounding hills and town. We would most definitely return if given the opportunity.

The castle is like staying in a museum. Keurig coffee in room makes a great cup of coffee. A small selection of nice breakfast snacks was provided. The room was very spacious with high ceilings. Comfy bed and large working tv was a plus. Cleanliness of room could be improved with a little more dusting and wiping down of walls and trim. However we had a delightful and quiet stay!

The hotel is amazing but the restaurant was closed. The room was beautiful but the furniture wasn’t too comfortable. The bed had a dip on one side. I did not like the blind over the window, the light shines right through it all day and night! There should really be some curtains there to block out the light. The room would not cool down at night to a comfortable temperature and we heard some sort of knocking sounds all night long.

We have stayed there many times and have noticed the quality going downhill the last couple of times. This last stay the air conditioning was broken which made sleeping uncomfortable. Also, the bed was harder than in the past. The choice between the pillow was rock hard or flat. All of the little amenities were still there which is appreciated, but we prefer a restful sleep.

Close to 90…stopped for one night on road trip. Kids loved walking around the Castle. Took pictures with the Knights :) Room was beautiful and huge and so clean, especially bathroom. They thought of everything you would need. Only problem was light from parking lot made room so bright all night. Kids had hard time sleeping. Black out blinds of some sort would make it perfect. Sad that the restaurant was closed. Lots of pizza places and taverns within walking distance but no breakfast or shops. Close to Erie Canal/Mohawk River and Parks. Ended up driving few minutes to Europa Cafe for great breakfast and service.

What a find! We loved staying at the CASTLE! What an historic place! The kind staff greeted us and was an informative tour guide! Thank you! We were overwhelmed at the splendor of the entire place. When we got to our room, it was warm and cozy and completely met our needs. I can't wait to go back!

The Desk staff were so incredibly cordial and knowledgeable. The building itself is repurposed from an armory and so whimsical. Terrific amenities in the room. Such a fun experience. And the Amsterdam walking bridge and park across the river is definitely worth a visit. As is the local bakery!

Very unique and very nice decoration in a great old bldg. Room was very good and looked recently renovated. Only distraction was paper thin walls but not many people there in the middle of the week. Could use a sign by the back driveway winter entrance. Great area. I would highly recommend it.

Our room reeked of farts. The sewer vent was STINKING up the whole place. When I brought it up to the old man at the front he was very rude and dismissive. This place is cool looking the the dining area/hall. But that’s it. The smell was so bad in the room for 2 days, NOT WORTH the $!!!

Honestly, this is an outstanding place to stay. You feel as if you are staying in a castle in Ireland or UK. Location is close to Saratoga too. Great restaurants near by. Highly recommend!!!!!!

We selected the area since it was a good stopping point on the way to Boston from the Cleveland area. The facilities were extremely clean and well maintained. We stayed there on the way to Boston and again on the way home. The only meal available is dinner on the weekends which is reservation only. We were not there during their dinner hours. We did walk to an Italian restaurant at the bottom of the hill for a delicious meal. Both stays we walked to a diner that served breakfast.

On a recent trip across NY, I was looking for lodging that offered a more unique stay than a chain hotel. The Amsterdam Castle did not disappoint! The dining was fabulous -- beautifully presented and very flavorful. Our Junior Suite room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The paintings in the room and throughout the hotel, the historical decor, the furnishings, and history of the place all contributed to a memorable stay. A big thank you to the staff for their hospitality.

Hotel made at first grgreat impression, which turned out a bit hollow. Impressive dining hall was practically empty and made only to show, there was no dining option even for breakfast. Other than tat it was ceqn and well situated close to town

Very comfortable and clean. Fun decor. Thoroughly enjoyable stay. Only negative is that we stayed mid-week, so the restaurant in the beautiful main hall was not operating. Overall, we’ll worth going out of our way to stay here!
