I should have known by the condition of the parking lot that we were in for a bumpy stay. The parking lot is poorly maintained at best. I got inside and it seemed a little better so I continued the check in process, which was calling someone to the front desk. The process was fairly quick. He had a little trouble with the process but nothing too bad. The room seemed ok at first. But upon looking around a little more it became obvious that I had made a mistake.

No towels in room and staff were unable to be contacted despite leaving messages at front desk and by their nominated phone line who according to the recorded message were to get back to me. I am still waiting for an apology.

Paid ahead of time for reservations and the hotel pulled the old bait and switch when I arrived, nearly doubled in price claiming my reservation was no where to be found despite having a printed copy from Expedia in my hand. I highly recommend not staying or even making reservations. If you're attending the Walnut IA Antique Show, definitely not recommended. Never felt safe around Section 8 residents smelling like weed.

If you made reservation via Expedia and have your receipt it will mean nothing to the Staff or Manager. You will be extorted for additional costs saying they lost your reservation or it was never confirmed. They had no vacancy for the 5 nights that I paid for via Expedia, but no problem with available rooms if I paid in full their new room rate. I was in the area for a special event (Walnut IA Annual Antique Show) along with other Vendors who stay at the Harlan Inns & Suites (6 others) who had the same problem with prepaid rooms being lost or never confirmed. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to pay the increased rate as most hotels in the area were sold out for the event. Once I get a determination from Expedia I will be filing in the small claims court for Shelby County IA and see if I can correct the Highway Robbery practice at this hotel once and for all. I'm retired so I have nothing better to do!
