What guests think

At Motel 6-Tumwater, WA - Olympia, guests report a budget stay with notably helpful staff and a convenient I-5 location, an outdoor pool and easy parking, but mixed cleanliness, worn rooms, and recurring smoke, pet, and musty odors.

Many appreciate the low rates, pet-friendly policy, and quick assistance when problems arise. Common drawbacks include freeway noise, dated or uncomfortable beds, thin walls, and inconsistent in-room amenities or maintenance such as TVs, Wi-Fi, fridges, microwaves, and air conditioning. The surrounding area feels sketchy to some. Expect a no-frills stopover if price matters most.

Arrived and got checked in pretty quick. This property has a pool, even though I wasn't able to take advantage of it. Room was clean. Odd configured shower, but not a deal breaker. Even though I had a ground level room, I wasn't able to park in front of it. Not a total deal breaker but very disappointing. There were what looked like handicapped parking spaces but there was no "wheelchair" painted in the blue box. Made sure I moved as soon as I got unloaded. The chairs provided were looking a little flimsy so this 6'5", 300# guy stayed out of them. I didn't want to end up on the floor. Nothing missing or broken. Everything worked.

I was able to easily book this online and check-in was fast. That is the end of anything nice I can say. The room was supposed to be non-smoking and absolutely reeked of years old cigarettes. The mini fridge leaked all over the floor prior to checkin (and with the floor swollen appears to be that way for a really long time). I had to leave a towel on the floor during my stay to avoid wet feet. The place was not clean and the toilet leaked and refilled all night long. This was an emergency stay so I had no other choice but would probably sleep in my car rather than stay here in the future.

No frills place to sleep. Unfortunately, sleeping can potentially be a challenge, with noise of freeway, neighborhood cars, noisy neighbors and barking dogs. Bring earplugs or noise cancelling headphones. Comfort of beds varies greatly, but room was clean. Saw no bugs except an old dried out cockroach on the sill of the night check in window. I probably wouldn’t stay here again but it was suitable for what I needed for a brief trip.

This was a typical Motel 6 updated property--new bath fixtures, good bed, It had a refrigerator--with a separate freezer compartment! However, I could hear every word from the people in the next room--thin walls. The outside of the building needs some TLC.

The room was tiny, dirty (took pics), bathroom was gross and the shower head leaked onto the floor. The missing/broken security latch was terrible. The air conditioner worked poorly and the curtains were to short and thin to block out the blinding bright spot lights in the parking lot.

You kind of get what you pay for here. It is reasonably priced ($137 for the night), but this is truly a bare minimum place to stay. The room was tiny, really tiny, and the beds were really worn out. There are no shampoo or conditioner in the room (bring it yourself, or you’re have to buy it from their vending machine, if it is working, which it wasn’t when we stayed), and only a partial roll of toilet paper. This place has homeless staying at it, and is not the best neighborhood. If you are a family with young kids, find another place to stay. They let pets stay here, but their us no breakfast. There is a McDonald’sxwithin walking distance. The non-smoking rooms, like ours, smell like smoke. My 16 year son and I stayed here one night for a baseball tournament, and it was ok. If you are staying longer, or looking for any kind of amenities, stay somewhere else.

Did they pay people to leave all of these good reviews? My first room had a mattress that should have been thrown away years ago, you sank straight through it and the springs creaked with every movement. The room door didn’t seal properly so you could hear the interstate clearly. The room was otherwise clean. The staff were polite and helped me move to another room, which had a good seal on the door and a better mattress, but had burn holes in the duvet cover and burn marks in the shower. I tried to sleep but someone was playing music through the walls- no go. I gave up on my prepaid room and left.

The staff are the best part of this property. Billy, Brian, Jen, John and Mike are nothing short of awesome. They are a fantastic team and go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable for you as possible. The property is dated but I believe improvements are being made one room at a time. The clientele can be shady at times but has really improved over the last few months for the most part. Overall it's the cheapest place in town and they allow pets with no hassle so it's my go to place hands down.
