Extended Stay America Suites - Newport News - Yorktown

I'll be hesitant to stay at an Extended Stay America Suites place again. Decent place for the low price. Really great location with lovely surrounding area in office park with lake. The hotel, itself, is pretty "bare bones," but clean. "Breakfast" is not a true advertisement "Gym" is a closet (maybe half the size of one hotel room) with crowded, I'd guess poorly maintained and inadequate equipment - as per photo seen via Hotels.com, there a total of "Two dumbbells." I thought I'd stayed elsewhere in Extended Stay America previously and things were significantly better. At the price point (and Hotel.com rating), I knew there was a risk. Nothing was horrible (well, maybe what they called "breakfast" was horrible because it was a misrepresentation). I just don't know if I'd like to do that again.

Whew where do I begin? If you’re used to staying in a well kept hotel this is NOT the place! 1. Hotel had an odor. 2. Security door didn’t work so anybody could walk right on in. 3. Towel rack, broke, cabinet door in bathroom broke, paint in the floor, shower curtain, filthy, soap dish, torn off the wall, shower dirty. 4. Kitchen- cabinet doors missing, drawers missing, microwave didn’t work, fridge was not cleaned inside, stove not cleaned, no utensils, pots etc. 5. Table had crumbs on it. 6. Couch was sunk in and frayed on the seems. 7. Lamp shades were crooked. 8.NOISY!! 9. Towels and bed linen were not white but dingy. Looked like they were washed in tea! I wish I could include pictures because this was unreal. On a positive tip. There were no bugs and the kitchen had nice granite counter tops. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! We toughed it out for one night because we were pushed for time. Skip this one!

Front desk was the only staff we encountered and she was great. After check in and cleaning up we went for dinner only to find two sheriffs officers arresting some young man in our parking lot outside our room window. Could be an isolated incident.

Our room had a weird smell … carpets, couch and chair needs deep cleaning. Micro was not working when we arrived, but was fixed the next day. The hallway carpet was very dirty, with stains which looked they were caused by pet accidents . Went to do some laundry, several machines were out of order. Very frustrating! There was only one top sheet and thin bed cover on bed … no blankets - may want to put blankets in room for cold nights. Only positive thing to say is the man who checked us in on the first night was so nice - wish I had his name so that he could be commended for a job well done.

The staff is friendly and the campus is well lit maintained and lit. Security is on point❤️ it!

Nice place that allows pets but more of a motel living situation for some.

We booked and paid for the room in advance or we would have walked out . The entire building and rooms smelled of Marijuana. It was over whelmingly strong. The minute you opened the entrance to the hotel it just seeped out . The hallways, the staircases and the rooms were all overhelming . If it hadnt been for that it would have been a nice stay. The staff needs to enforce the smoke free building that they advertise to make sure its a nice stay for everyone

Overall, the property was great. We had an issue & management resolved it immediately. I wish they had a pool, but we enjoyed the patio, grills & stove in our room. We saved money by cooking everyday.

I checked out immediately upon arriving in my room, which had a full kitchen, but was completely devoid of any basic supplies -- utensils, cups and glasses, silverware, etc. The stove top was not clean, and the tiny TV facing the dirty sofa, did not live up to the "extended stay" facility I expected. The desk agent was very kind, but reported, that they had no inventory of any appliances such as coffeemakers, toasters, kitchen supplies. The clientele seemed questionable, so while situated in an office park environment, the guests staying here certainly were not corporate long-term clients.

I've never stayed in a hotel where the floors are completely black, and we had to go buy black socks to walk around and were thrown in the trash when we left. There were so many roaches crawling all over we were afraid to put any food out, so we kept it all in the refrigerator. We went out and bought sheets to put over the couch and chair just to sit down. Quality control really needs to visit this place...

The whole hotel smelled bad

Everything was dirty, from the headboards having clear wipeable stains, to the table and remote being sticky, I also saw a roach in the bathroom and I had to kill it myself. The room itself isn’t bad but it wasn’t near as sanitary as it should’ve been. Highly disappointed.

The building especially the room smells bad, stain in the bed, cockroaches in the bed, wall and floor. Never going back to this hotel. And its brand.

Walked in bldg B, smelled like trash and smoke. Carpet was filthy everywhere. Walls were dirty. Walk in my "non-smoking" room, smelled a stronger stench of smoke. Turned the light on in the bathroom, four tiny baby roaches on the floor went running for cover. I was too tired to go back to the office to undo everything and find another place so I hung my duffle bag on a hanger in the closet so it wouldn't touch anything a roach could crawl on. I slept on top of the bed instead of taking a chance on pulling back the cover and having something jump on my hand. It's very obvious I would never stay here again.

The check in staff was not very friendly. The room is filthy, the floor has not been swept or vacuumed. There is a terrible odor in both the hallway and room itself. On top of all that I have killed two cockroaches in the room.

Roach infested hotel and trash everywhere. The hallways look like they haven't been vacuumed in a while. The place say they offer breakfast and the selectionwas a joke. They only had hot water and oatmeal packets and granola bars not coffee. The whole place is not upkept it looks dingy and worn out. One of the windows did not close and they couldn't fix it. We ended up leaving early. Some of the staff were not very friendly and hallways smell like skunk.

The front desk people were very friendly and the location was convenient to attractions we planned to visit. Otherwise this property had nothing to offer. The entire facility was extremely worn and dated, all the way from the office to the hallways to the room itself. There was a heavy coating of dust on the TV stand and the shower curtain had numerous stains. The toilet seat was loose to the point I had to tighten the bolts to keep it from falling off completely. The common areas smelled stale and overall the feeling was not clean and sanitary. I would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.

To say this place was disgusting is an understatement! The whole Hotel had a smell of smoke. Very noisy from other rooms. No phones in the room to call the front desk. The room felt like it needed a deep clean and to be upgraded. As we were about to leave the toilet flooded the bathroom. Don’t waste your time nor money at this place!

Room was covered in roaches I got up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and roaches literally scattered across the floor when I turned the lights on. No one was at the front desk so my husband and I just decided to leave .they refused to refund me . I don’t recommend this place .

The property location was decent. Lady who checked me in was friendly. Floor plan was nice b/c it had a living room, tiny kitchen & 2 separate bedrooms. Once we reached our room we were disgusted. We even considered leaving & trying to find another hotel but it was late so we stayed. The sofa cushions were super flat & stained so we couldn't even sit on them. The bathroom door wouldn't close, after further investigation we realized the door was coming off the top hinge. We had to lift it up to make the door close. There were all kinds of stains on the bathroom door. There were spots on the floor that resembled blood, there was no way for us to know for sure what it was. The living room had a window a/c unit which is odd for a hotel. Then we discovered a wall thermostat for another a/c. There appeared to be black mold next to this unit. We noticed that the TV stand next to it had severe water damage with a chunk missing. One of the beds looked like someone laid across it after making it up. The sheets were scratchy. One of the towels had a long dark hair tangled in it which wasn't ours. The bathroom mirror had a 10 step list on a sticker they follow to clean the rooms, I doubt the staff has ever read it. I usually stay in multiple hotel rooms a year, I'm in my 50s & this is the worse one I've ever experienced. It has a 7.0 rating so I felt safe booking a room here, boy was I wrong & I don't know how it has a 7.0. I could go on, but I'm out of characters. Just awful!

The property was clean. The staff was friendly, but the bed was uncomfortable as hell and the neighbors were very noisy. The walls are thin

Fridge was noisy and frozen over. Had to unplug for the night. Room felt wet and damp. Trash left under the bed.

Lovely staff and nice environment. My problem was that our 1st night there were no lights in the bathroom and over the table. It took 3 days to fix it. When maintenance came to the room she noticed the stool didn't work properly, she said she'll come back to fix it and she didn't. The stool ened up over flowing a little more than half the room that same night. We moved to a 2nd room that was fine. We checked out and came back, our room was full of roaches. I even woke up to one crawling on me and one in the fridge which I have a pic of. I moved again I say and killed 2 roaches. 1 or 2 roaches I can understand but to kill 18 in one room horrible.

The hospitality was what I needed at the time my family were going through hardship and the loss of our grandfather.

Minor issues but staff resolved quickly

Decent hotel but infested with roaches ! I will be reaching out to corporate to investigate the location. It was unreal how infested the hotel was. Made my skin crawl. We stayed 2 nights and the room was not refresh with towels or toilet paper, those types of request had to be made to the front desk which I thought was odd. Once requested we had to go to the front desk to pick it up which was an inconvenience. Thankfully I packed both toilet paper and trash bags because we would have been without unless we requested it. We also did not have extra sheets or blankets for the pull out, when booked we specifically said that would be four adults in the room , we didn't realize there was none until bedtime, which was an inconvenience because once again we had to go to the front desk to pick it up. This place has so much potential so I was disappointed with the outcome.

The staff were all extremely nice and helpful. We were here for a few days and our stay was quiet and relaxing. Have stayed here before and would stay again if we are ever in the area.😊

The woman at the front desk was great. The property however could use some work. The grass was getting high and there were a few hornets and wasps around. The guests a couple of doors down were very noisy but i nevermind it because i was only there overnight and some of those people live there. The carpets could use a good cleaning but for the most part it was ok.

My daughter needed a place to stay with her 5 children and her dog.til she finds an apt. We were told that we could extend daily, weekly or monthly but when I needed to extend her room for Sat june 3, we were told it was booked. We was already booked for Fri 6/3 and Sunday 6/4. We were told we had to leave and come back Sunday June 4, 2023. We were already at the hotel from May 25, 2023 June 2, 2023. The manager told her she have to remove all her belongs, her children and dog for one day and come back the next Sunday. You dont treat people with so little regard especially paying customers. I paid for two rooms and i expected to be treated with respect, dignity, and compassion especially from managerment. I will not recommend this Extended Stay in Yorktown, Va to any of my friends and family if this is how manager interact customers. I need to be compensate for the unsettling matter this was handled. Technically Extended Stay in Yorktown put my daughter and her 5 childrrn and dog out in the street.

Not safe area. Lots of people hanging around and acting strange. Didn’t want to leave my car here overnight I was afraid it would get broken into. Will not be using extended stay again.

Room had an overwhelming smell of grease that did not go away even with the windows open. Stayed for two nights. It is an extended stay so property inside is old and smelly. Extremely basic with oatmeal, coffee and granola bars for breakfast. Picture on website is not what it actually looks like.

Filthy hallways. Limited room service. Lobby dirty. Only granola bars for breakfast. Have to ask in lobby for every fork and bowl.

No Breakfast no coffee no room service at all you had to get your own towels you have to get your own toilet paper you have to take your own garbage out or room in the kitchen was nice except for the cockroaches you couldn't leave anything out on the counter at all. No coffee pot no cups no dishes in the kitchen at all you have to bring or rent your own pots and pans or or buy.

The place is filthy, I switched rooms after my first night because of cockroaches running on the walls. Rooms are nonsmoking but you can smell the cigarette smoke in your clothes after you get out. The staff has a lot of problems with management that they openly discussed in front of guests. There is still no breakfast after covid even though the website claims so.

Everyone was friendly and the faculty in general was good, but they did not have breakfast nor any extra pillows.

I’ve should have known when I called and the lady told me they overbooked our room. The smell in the hallway is so gross , smells like a cat litter box and urine , the beds are very uncomfortable, the toilet seat was not tight, the pull out had stains all over it . The “breakfast included” was a packet of oatmeal and 1 just 1 packet of muffin per guest. I say spend the extra 20 and stay elsewhere.

They said there was breakfast included and there was not. When we ask for compensation a we could get breakfast elsewhere, they refused.

The property should not have as high of a rating as it does on your site. In addition it states that it offers breakfast, this is untrue unless you count leaving oatmeal packets out on a counter ‘Breakfast Provided’. The shower had not been cleaned. The air conditioner was loud and made it difficult to sleep. The sheets had stains that made us question if they had been cleaned. This was a terrible stay, and way overpriced.
