What guests think

Across many reviews, White Buffalo Hotel is praised for its convenient West Yellowstone location near the park entrance and a hearty breakfast, while feedback on dated facilities, noise, and bed comfort varies widely among guests.

Rooms are generally large but feel older, and several travelers mention thin walls, squeaky floors, and spotty Wi-Fi or TV performance. Service is often friendly, though front-desk help can be hit-or-miss. There’s no elevator and the former pool is gone; parking is mostly on-street. Very old-fashioned place with extremely nice staff, but no elevator for second floor rooms. Make sure you have light luggage or ensure that you book on the first floor. Great location for access to park, and plenty of parking on the street. Breakfast included.

Sheets not turned over from prior guest having freshly dried blood stains. Towels stained, tub not clean. Advertised breakfast/was none. Advertised laundry . It was in basement had to walk through filthy paths and kitchen items to get there, then told no services. Sent photos to Expedia still waiting on refund reply. Expedia is stepping in on our behalf. I don’t recommend this hotel. Also you have to lug your suitcase up a flight of stairs to get the elevator. Horrible experience

Room was spacious and clean. No phone in room. But with cell phones nowadays, phone in room is not critical except if you need to call the front desk. Hot water in shower kept cutting in and out but good water pressure. Overall a nice place to stay while traveling through the Yellowstone. Free breakfast included in price is a big plus and the breakfast was pretty good. Overall, a great place for an overnight stop while traveling.

West Yellowstone is expensive, and the White Buffalo was near the bottom of the scale, but still rated 7.6. A huge problem was with WiFi. It was working when we checked in on Tuesday, but then went out early that evening. Because our phone is from out of the country we did I not have cellular data. So WiFi being out was a big issue. The WiFi never was restored before we left on Friday! Different excuse each time we checked on the status. This really impacted our ability to communicate and plan. The furniture is dated, and little details ignored, like the light switch next to the bed is mounted too high to reach without standing up. Light bulbs burned out and not replaced. We did think the breakfast was good, and we liked the atmosphere. I would give a higher rating if the WiFi had been handled as expected. We added and extra day to leave on Friday, and I just found out the hotel charged me twice for Thursday night. Still working with them to get this corrected.

This is an old hotel. It is maintained, but very, very dated and you can hear everything above and beside you. The bed was like sleeping on a trampoline and the linens were itchy. There was no hair conditioner provided. The hotel hosts tour busses of overseas tourists who yell down the hallways to each other late into the night and early in the morning. When I peeked out the door and asked them to keep their voices down, they just stared at me and continued to shout to each other (did not understand English). The breakfast crew was wonderful - friendly and the food was good.

Our room was clean, cool and quiet. We rested well. The staff...amazing. We locked our keys in our room and didn't notice it until the front desk had closed (10 pm). In my panic, I called the hotel number online and a very kind gentleman came at 11:20pm and gave us a new room key. So very thankful for his kindness. Breakfast (included for 2 people) was delicious and the staff working the buffet were very sweet and polite.

After reading other reviews of The White Buffalo, I was hesitant to book, but I was a last-minute traveller and it seemed like a cost-effective option. I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, the property is older, but my room was in the main building (first floor down the hall from the front desk), and it was clean and updated with well-regulated temperatures. My daughter and I felt safe. The staff were all very friendly and polite. It was the best included breakfast (for two) I’ve found in quite some time, especially the fresh fruit and protein options. It was in a convenient location to the National Park. I would stay again!

The staff was incompetent at the first attempt to check in. Tried charging and additional $130 to pay at the property instead of online. I had to have Expedia call and straighten them out…. Next issue was the room was very run down and in desperate need of some maintenance. The tv did not work, and there was nobody at the front desk to talk to, waited over 15 mins and nobody showed up. The day before I was scheduled to check out, I came back to my room to find the door was left open by the housekeeper. Needless to say, I left that night. Overall a terrible experience

The office staff member was so incredibly rude to the foreigner who did speak English in front of us. He was attempting to use his phone to translate and she very disrespectfully told him she couldn’t help him. Never even tried to understand his issue fully and brushed him aside. Then when directing us to our room and parking completely told us the wrong information. Didn’t even explain that there were two buildings. Room was decent but still not up to our expectations. Over priced and Disappointed!

We booked this hotel last minute because we were planning on camping but had a member of our group get a flat and go down on a motorcycle so we needed to stay in a cleaner environment, I didn’t have high expectations because it was the cheapest cheapest available but I was really shocked how nice this hotel really was. The rooms were clean and spacious, the hotel was nicely decorated to match the theme and they have the most amazing delicious free breakfast. I’ve stayed at probably thousands of hotels at this point in my life and never have I experienced such a lovely free breakfast, they had so many delicious options that I wanted to try but couldn’t eat anymore. There are many options of where to stay in this area, butI would definitely look for this place to book again. Every single person I interacted with in the hotel was very sweet and helpful and truly seem like they just wanted you to have a good stay.

The people serving in the restaurant had gloves on while cleaning the tables and picking all the dirty dishes. The same people served the food without changing out the gloves. They kept the same gloves while doing different activities. The carbonated cold drinks in the machine were totally flat and old. It upset my stomach. They need to change the drinks more often or not serve and make people sick. More cleanliness and hygiene should be followed in the restaurant. The coffee served tasted awful. The variety of breakfast items was good. It advertised they also have vegetarian food. However, they had only potatoes for vegetarian. They need to include more vegetarian food for people like my spouse who is vegetarian.
