It's run down and some things are dangerous like broken cement edges of the pool. I used to stay here years ago and it was nice, now I don't wanna stay here again and I visit Santa Cruz often.

Parking can be an issue

It was very nosiey at night kids running around screeming, spa dirty . The pool rest room very dirty no toilet paper. Have been here before had a great time. Will not come again

Staff is friendly . The hot tubs were yellow and the jets weren’t working correctly, may of been due to low water level?

Honestly after reading some reviews on various platforms that gave 1/10 and described some awful conditions, I was a bit worried. I’m leaving this review in part to share that we did not have any problems. PROS: We were pleasantly surprised with the size of the room, which also had a private courtyard area off the sliding doors (room 118). The pool was clean, parking was easy and well lit, the room was clean, the showers had hot water, no sign of bugs in the room, the beds were comfortable and linens clean. The property is close to the Boardwalk - and convenient as a hub to explore the area (Capitola, Natural Bridges, Shark Fin Cove, surfing spots north and south, UC Santa Cruz, etc). CONS: The noise from directly above was a bit much, but that group seemed to settle down around the same time we went to bed. There were a couple of deferred maintenance items (ie missing slat on one of the blinds) but nothing really concerning. OVERALL: This is an older property, but it absolutely met our needs.

The location is very good, near the boardwalk. Although they charge $10 for parking it's still better than parking at the boardwalk. one can walk for 10mins to save $$. The hotel staff was quite nice and friendly. The manger allowed us to keep our car in the premises even after our checkout which was great. overall, a good stay.

Spa was nice,

The pool and spa was open till late at night which was convient for me.

Hotel Solares is an older property with very affordable prices What was very impressive was the pet friendly room, which had laminate floors (no carpet, hurray) that allowed easy cleanup for any accident. I didn't bring my dog, but in a hotel, she usually is nervous and I'd never had a pet room that let me clean up her little messes. The really cool part was outside the patio door. Each pet room was fenced with astroturf over some of the area and a big sand box for the pets. You could leave the patio door open and your pet can go in and out and have its own yard. Wow, how cool is that?

Hotel Solares was a great experience overall. We enjoyed staying at this hotel and will probably come back for our next visit. It’s very walkable to multiple restaurants as well as the Santa Cruz boardwalk itself. The amenities were very clean and even though they were right outside our bedroom, there was not much noise coming from them. The one issue we did have was the parking, we could not find parking spots on Saturday night. We had a parking pass for the hotel since it requires it and we still could not find parking. We also noticed there were multiple cars parked that did not have a pass. This was pretty unfair. We ended up parking in an area that wasn’t for parking but the hotel reception stated it was okay and in the morning, I moved my car when some spots opened up. This is something I definitely think the hotel should address somehow. We pay for the parking and we didn’t get any parking spaces. Everything else that was good definitely outweighed the bad so still overall a good experience.

My sheets had poop stains on them… Do yourself a favor and do NOT stay here! Pictures on site is very inaccurate of the hotel Hot water heater was broken my entire stay ( which was 3 day stay)

Bathroom inside the pool area dirty and not well maintain ! Rooms are clean but sheets have a wear smell !! I won’t not stay here again

Staff were courageous and professional. What I didn’t like that a window blind a panel was missing, we had to cover with a towel. Cleaning staff need to improve on cleanliness, there was a stain on the bathroom wall by the toilet and the computer chair was filthy.

Very nice value for the money, a little older but they clearly made some good efforts to modernize the decor. Could be cleaned better-tidy but found used floss and soap ring in the bathroom.

Room generally clean, definitely they sprayed for clean scent but the bathroom was in poor condition. Hair in the sink and on the floor. The shower was broken but we were tired and it was late.

We found a fork in between the sheets in one bed. Found the toilet cleaner scruber INSIDE the toilet. People upstairs seemed they were stomping their feet up until 1130 pm and again at 530.am We ended up leaving earlier than our checkout time.

The room was filthy. Walking barefoot left you with black feet and there was clear water damage and mold on the walls. Overpriced and unkempt. Theres much more wrong but thats the extent of it Expensive Filthy In need of repair

This was a pretty dirty hotel room. We brought our small dog and paid the $50 fee, which we were fine with. However, there was garbage both inside our room and on our private patio. The private patio specifically has bags of dog poop from the previous tenant and it was not disposed of. Flies were everywhere outside. Inside the room, I found garbage on the shelves and vinegar poured all over the coffee machine with fruit flies surrounding it. The bathroom had dried soap on the walls and hair from whoever stayed in the room previously. Luckily for us, we were only staying one night and basically just needed a bed for the night. Had we been staying any longer, we would’ve had to cancel and find somewhere else to stay.

this was a rebranded days inn. the Majority of the towels had stains on them. There was a lot of hair in the bathroom.

Roaches! This hotel has roaches crawling all over it. My room had tiny roaches all over the walls. It was dirty and smelled bad, it did not look like they cleaned it. I complained about the bugs and was told I should check out without a refund if I didn’t like it. When I did check out they called to tell me that they were keeping my deposit because the room smelled. That’s how they gave it to me! I honestly feel like they kept my deposit as retaliation for complaining about the their roach infestation. This place is disgusting and the staff are rude and scammers. I traveled with my 1 year old and my 12 year old daughters, this hotel ruined our entire experience. Don’t trust this place

The rooms were nice... what you'd expect from a beach-area motel... casual, clean, fairly well-kept. Staff were pleasant, friendly, and helpful. Negative: seems to be a party hotel. And noises and voices (especially in the outdoor corridors) traveled well... and became VERY noisy at times. After quiet hours, though, everything quieted down, so guests were not loud during typical sleeping hours. I was just surprised at how noisy other guests were during the day and how little sound proofing there was (and those echo-ey outdoor hallways! ack!)

Renovated room, clean.

Everything was just as in the photos and descriptions. The pool was nice. What wasn’t nice was the fact that the person next to me had a dog and would let them out at four in the morning and everything echoes because all the doors go to the outside and if somebody goes down the stairs, it echoes through the property so I woke up at 4 AM every day. I know it’s a dog and there’s nothing you can do about it but there needs to Perhaps some sort of rules about it.

Wall very thin. Can hear people talking in the room next to us and walking down the hall. Did not get much sleep. Rooms very nice. Staff not very friendly. If you book at hotel free parking otherwise you have to pay.

Walk in at 4:30pm to check in. Was told to come back in 15min because they were cleaning a room for me. Check in is 3pm BTW. There was a hole punched in bathroom door. Visible damage throughout the room. Plus was the room had a decent patio fenced-in yard on ground floor. Would be a very dog friendly room for someone with a dog. I do not have a dog. Could hear the person in room above walking all night. Either was a very heavy person or the floor was weak or maybe both.

I had a couple of days off and wanted to go to Santa Cruz. I booked a two-night stay for my family. There was 5 of us including 2 teenagers. After I booked my stay, I read the reviews, and they were not very good. My stay was wonderful. The room I booked was a family suite. The first floor had 2 double beds, lounger, and full walk-in shower. Upstairs was a king size bed, a lounger and a full bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The room was clean, quiet, beds comfortable, and towels plush. We asked the front desk for additional beddings because one of the teenagers wanted to sleep on the lounger. They brought the beddings in a few minutes. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. I wish I was able to stay longer

Not great, but not awful. First of all, the guy at the front desk does not make anyone feel very welcome. Zero personality. But whatever. The price of the place seems pretty good for the area and it's a good location. It's close to the boardwalk and a 15 minute walk to the hipper part of town. Some of the rooms, including ours, have a cool outdoor space. That was nice. The room itself was fine with a desk and a couple chairs. There were some strange things about it, like the fact that the toilet wasn't secured to the ground very well and there were multiple holes in the blankets. So, if that kind of stuff doesn't bother you, this place is OK.

This is a great location if you are wanting a hotel you can walk to the beach! a 10-minute walk gets you to the waves. The rooms are clean with newer floor, and the bathroom has a nice shower. The courtyard is a great setup with 2 hot tubs and a pool, and plenty of seating. The beds were very hard and some of the outlets and tv didn't work in our room, but we were really only there to sleep so it didn't bother us too much. Breakfast is minimal (bagels, yogurt, and coffee) but sufficient. Inexpensive, no frills, but a doable hotel if you just want to catch some waves!

Walls were paper thin. Upstairs sounded like they were rearranging furniture until 230am. The outlets didn’t work so I couldn’t charge my phone. Hot water in the shower didn’t work and it took them a while to get it working.

The hotel location is great but the evening check-in guy needs to have welcome greeting smiling he just has straight up answer. We were given a room and it didn’t have any soap, shampoo or conditioner for shower; soap,container was missing, window has blinds missing if someone is changing clothes or sleeping people could pick from outside. We have kids and young daughter. We had to put a towel over it when I went to tell them they didn’t even change the room for us.

Horrible staff. Refused to get me a manager. Witnessed the staff doing the exact same thing with another unhappy guest.

Place is really nice, quite clean and the staff was friendly. Our room was clean huge ready on time. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Was told by check in clerk there was breakfast in the morning at check in. I didn’t even ask. Then I over heard another staff telling another gues anbout the breakfast. I realized i didn’t ask the time so, I message the text number that replied answers to questions while at the hotel. It told me breakfast Monday to Sunday: 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM. There was no breakfast and the coffee machine didn’t work. Woman at front desk barely looked up when asked a question. She acted like we were bothering her. She said there’s never a breakfast . How weird to lie to so many guests. Very disappointing

There was a loud party next door and they kept us up until 3 am When management was informed they did nothing and did not even have ear plugs . I do not recommend this hotel .

We spent the last 2 days with no hot water in the room, I went to the front desk on Saturday morning to let know to the receptionist, a young lady, that we had no hot water and that my kids had taken a cold shower in the morning, we're heading out, so a asked to fix the problem by the time when we return, around 6:00 and I went to the front desk to ask about if the problem was corrected and the receptionist who identified with the name of "Luz" , she didn't wanted to tell me her last name (I not even if Luz was her real name) told me that already was fix, I went to the room (room 104) and checked the shower for hot water, no surprise, still no hot water, I went back to the front desk and the lady was gone, the guy behind the front desk told me that her shift was already over, I asked to the new receptionist if she told him anything about the problem and he didn't know anything about it, by the way the name of this guy was Sam Niir, so he went to check the boiler, an hour later he told me that he need to fix some problem with it, at around 10:00 PM I went back to the front desk and this guy Sam Niir was gone, his shift was over accordingly to the new receptionist who was another guy named Shihab, who neither was told about the problem, so at this point I realize that the receptionist weren't relying the info to the next shift and neither obviously to their manager, that day I had to take a cold shower again, they failed to relocated us in another room, so we left on Sunday.

Staff was friendly, clean pool/hot tub and clean room. Website has check in at 3:00pm, my Expedia room confirmation also had 3;00pm, but when we got there they told us it's 4:00pm. So we paid $40 for "early" check in.

Dirty floor. Very noisy. I paid through Expedia and then was charged again by the hotel. They had asked for my credit card so they could put a $25 deposit in the event that there were any "incidentals" that needed to be paid for. There wasn't even any coffee in the room. I checked out before 8 am. Today not only did the $25 stay on my credit card. They also put another $150 charge on it. My $134 room has now cost me $309. I need some help with this disaster dump

We’ve stayed at Hotel Solares many times over the years on our family vacations to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The staff without fail has always been a delight. They have the nicest people working the front desk! Rooms are roomy for our family of four. Beds are comfy. Parking is convenient and the hotel is walking distance to the boardwalk.

What we thought would be a great family fun day took a sour turn when we got this hotel! We arrived early at 1pm hopefully we could check in early since I had received an email stating it was an option. When we arrived at the reception we were told check in was 4pm hotels.com has it as 3pm check in time. We decided to go to the boardwalk to enjoy so sun and food! We came back at 4:45 and the girl at reception informed me that they had no room available for us that we had to wait, she started to argue making comments to my family stating No one told you to go to the beach like it was our fault they didn’t have a room for us, she also continued comparing our reservations to a burger order, she was just completely rude! Making a very hostile environment! When we got our room almost 5:30!!! It had a used toilet paper roll, we had no soap or any bathroom supplies. The balcony door lock was not working making it unsafe for my son! It had a stick to lock it! The pictures on the website do not match at all, when you arrive in person it looks like a hunted place. I would not recommend anyone staying here!

The hotel was great. It has been tastefully remodeled and we really enjoyed our stay. It was convenient and walking distance to the Boardwalk and many restaurants. Check in and check out was a breeze. We will absolutely stay there again.

Spent three nights here. Just a 10-minute walk down to the Boardwalk, which is fantastic. Place is older but you can tell they really try to maintain and fixed up. Pool and hot tubs were nice. Room is spacious; there were two of us and we had two queen beds. Plenty of space to spread out and not feel crowded. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is ok, but I don't usually expect much. Everything else was great. I would definitely stay here again.

Great spot close to Boardwalk.

It was okay for the price. Surrounding neighborhood area is a little rough. We had a basic room. One bad thing was it's two floors and the layout was like an apartment complex. People upstairs were heavy footed and we had to deal with the walking around and thumping from the ceiling.

The location is convenient because you are in walking distance to the boardwalk and restaurants. The hotel is fenced in so it make it feel safer.

Grossly misrepresented in photos and description. All I could do was laugh, since it's not like we could stay elsewhere last minute. it is very close to everything though

i liked hotel location! close walking distance to boardwalk, and the beach.. my room was on first floor- near common area, and pool. this area became busy and noisy in evening and again, in early morning. Other than that it was an okay stay.

Bait and switch with the offer of parking but then charge for it. Also, the hotel staff only clean some of the rooms (and not ours). The breakfast wasn't good. But they still charge a lot of money per night.

We saw a couple homeless around the building laying on the sidewalk. For a short stay I would recommend but please don\'t expect any courtesy from this hotel. They charge for just a half hr before check in and will not allow you to use parking space any longer than check out time like other hotels I\'ve stayed at. Don\'t let the "breakfast included" fool you. They only offer stale beagles and nasty coffee. I see it as a last option hotel.

Liked being able to walk to beach during the day. Would have like some fruit available for breakfast.

Very poor excuse of breakfast! No cereal or milk. No bread or butter for toast! Ridiculous! Much disrepair all around.

Second time in Santa Cruz in last few months We enjoyed our stay! Good breakfast (wish there was juice) coffee machine was on point check in was fast and easy, room was spacious and clean and bed was very comfortable! Tv was basic but decent. Definitely will be coming back!

We chose this hotel because of the continental breakfast however, getting up the next morning there is no continental breakfast transients live in their motorhome is down the street from the hotel so if you have expensive car like we do, it was very unsettling last night as we stayed up and watched the car to make sure it wasn’t stolen

We had a good night's sleep. The room was large, and the bathroom was clean. The pillows and mattress were very good, and we really had restful sleep. Breakfast was simple, but had good coffee and a cappuccino machine!
