Surf Motel

Linens and room were clean but run down. Rust on lamps, bathroom door had loose hinges so didn’t close well, room door needed weather stripping so light and air came in. There was very minimal parking that was first come, first serve. We were able to get a spot but definitely don’t count on it. The area was fine, easy to get the bus to destinations, very walkable.

Place was OK for a budget motel. Wifi does not work for streaming of any sort. Brought my firestick hoping my streaming services would work... Nope. When tried with my mobile device later, it wouldnt even "surf". Couldnt even check my email on their wifi. Had to use my providers internet. Whatever. Elevator scared us enough off the first run that we wouldnt take it again. We weren\'t sure it was gonna let us go so we walked every other time. Beds were ok. Not bad nor good. Rooms were like a 70s motel. Attempts have been made to update them, but not enough effort. The TV was small for the room. Fridge has been in there for 10 years and been abused. AC unit ran, but it wasnt cold. Could hear the people next door easily. Especially since they just screwed a amoure to the door between the rooms to prevent that. Possitives include Mels diner and Home Plate a block or so away. Its a cheap (especially for SF) crash pad, hot showers, and its walkable to the warf and bridge IF youre willing to put in some steps. Its also far enough away that after midnight its very quiet, but loud come 8am. Not their fault. Not a lot to do close by for night life. But good area for breakfast, and just close enough to the warf if you\'re willing to walk 20 minutes without too much up and down. About a 6 overall.

Beds were uncomfortable and the room smelled heavily of smoke with a perfume over it. The elevators did not work. Apart from that, the room was very nice for the time we stayed and parking is included. Area is very convenient!

Surprisingly it was a pretty quiet room, for being on lombard st I was surprised. Rooms clean and tidy. Its not a 5 star by any means, but is 5 star for what you paid for. Lots of great funky resturants around just. ablock away. I woiuld stay here again for sure. Included Parking is a big plus!

Very old motel, the socket near the bed does not work, the key to enter the room stops working by itself, the elevator can get stuck, the transport is noisy around the clock, cleaning is only upon request! in general, you can stay for 2-3 days if there is no other option! upon check-in, I had to pay another $100, as I understood for booking through the Expedia app, and another $100 deposit!

Great location near Marina district. It is a motel and motel quality. Free parking.

Parking on the property was so convenient and the deposit was given back the next morning. Unfortunately the Wi-Fi was bad and the bed and pillows were uncomfortable also the AC didn’t work well.

Good for having parking for free. Bad for having rusted furniture and restroom lights. Bad for having a broken mirror which is very dangerous. The smell of cigarettes in the room was horrible. There was a lot of pubic hair in the restroom floor.

The room was very clean. The hotel was surprisingly quiet. Exactly what I wanted for the night.

The room was okay if they would have a coffee in the room and a phone. The water was cold we had to fight to get a hot shower in the morning and there was no hot water at night time. Other than that its okay for a couple of nights

I have to go down to the lobby every time I need to get in my room as the key they give says its working but it doesn't. Staff do come up (I'm in the third floor) and they see that all cards aren't working.

Clean, small room with good bed, fridge and microwave - no coffeemaker. Tricky keycard latch. Remodel is pretty good. Parking tight but great for us. Good location and surprisingly quiet. Windows were screwed shut so had to use door or AC for ventilation. Lighting on one side of the bed only. TV operation had a learning curve. Good shower/water pressure. Low key.

The noise of cars is very loud. The equipment is very poor, and there is no hot water in the morning. It's convenient to eat, and there are many restaurants to choose from around.

The motel was excellently located with bus stop right outside and just a block away from great shops and restaurants on Chestnut Street. Perfect location for exploring San Francisco. The property itself was a little run down, the key cards were not reliable and had to get them redone. The main door, whilst shutting could still see daylight in some parts round the seal, so needs re-doing. This did let noise in and other guests were not always thoughtful of others and noisy at time. However, over all an average stay. Clean and functional and served its purpose. Nothing special and would not look to make a repeat visit.

The suite was big. It accommodated our family of 5 VERY well with room to spare. There was something in the microwave that the previous occupant left.

Nice clean, spacious, well situated motel room with included onsite parking, depending on room location there may be a little traffic noise. I would definetly stay there again.

I’ve stayed before and came back for another week. Management and staff are all be nice, friendly and accommodating. Located in a great area Safe! And it’s also a quiet neighborhood. Close to everything. Just a small bus ride , Lyft or walk for Sure! Next time I go back I will be staying at the Surf ! John

The keycard to my room never fully worked the deadbolt was missing male part which didn’t make me feel secure in the least especially the last night I was there, after packing I went down to the management to make sure I was squared away prior to checking out and some guy met me at my door asking if he could use an outlet to charge his phone, I asked why he did charge in his room, he said he wasn’t staying there, he hovered a bit so I walked away and didn’t come back to my door til he was gone, and of there are no phones in the rooms so I had to google the motel to get the number to report the weirdo walking round on the third floor. The graveyard manager was great as was the evening manager it was the daytime manager that made me so frustrated. He kept asking me for my cards to xerox them at one point he almost had me convinced that part of my bill hadn’t been paid which was annoying but once I spoke to my credit card co., they assured me that they had been paid. I really did not need that headache! Oh all the cleaning staff were awesome.

Get this hotel, the staff was great. They were always there for me. My key card stopped working at 11pm and they were there to get me a new one. The free parking is a MAJOR plus. And the location is perfect you’re literally a few blocks from the golden gate. The only downside was the size of the room maybe because the bed was too close to the tv but other than that, I recommend this hotel

there was no early check in even though multiple rooms were available that fit my request, the day time clerk was rude and didn't want to assist me with getting checked it, i sat in the cold from 6 am until 11:30 before he even considered helping me, had an attitude for every question i needed answered and the bathroom had a whole in the room , my door was not secure and would not close or lock properly.

I drove from San Diego to San Francisco after booking a ADA room at this hotel. I drove 10 hours and when I got there they didn’t have a room that would accommodate my wife. She is the reason I asked for an ADA room because she is a right leg amputee and travels with an electric scooter! I was so angry because I contacted Expedia and they were not able to help me either. The hotel refunded my deposit but I had to book a different room at the last minute and paid $300 more for that room. If you book a room at Surf Motel call them and speak to someone to make sure you get the too you ask for.

We were totally surprised by the fact to check it and you have to give them a deposit of $200 only in cash. Who carries $200 in cash these days? The girl just was very rude about in fact

Parking was fine.Have had passed experience staying here and was always easy in/easy out,but this time wasn’t the same.checked in early like usual-Rooms not available yet but always pay and take care of parking permits so when I come back late night all I need to do is pick up key to a room.guy in office gave me a hard time for about twenty minutes before giving me my key and that’s the last thing I need at 1am,especially since I need to be back at work by 10 am

It took for me 2 hours to check in they did the wrong charge on my card. Put a sign to tow my car etc

Great location with access to the Marina (walkable) and many other areas of the city o. Public transit. Nothing fancy, but solid for the price! no problems!

The site of the motel is unusual, located on the busy Lombard street it has access to good food and sites, They do place you with what room you first selected when you paid online or what is available. The rooms are cozy, working cable and amenities. It is fairly quiet and it feels very safe. Good place to stop at when staying in San Francisco for a few days..

Simple. Old school style hotel. Front desk clerk helped with card key when entering our room. A little tricky and weird but it worked. Overall stay was good for a one night i wouldnt stay longer. Walking disrance to some cool mom and pop shops

My reasoning in picking out this specific location was for the parking. Parking is limited but I had no issues considering my stay was during the weekdays & not on the weekends when it’s busiest. Personally I loved the location, very close to fisherman’s wharf, marina district, pier39, etc. A bus stop is also located directly in front of the motel which was able to take me straight into China Town. Another aspect I focused on was making sure the motel was in a safer area. Not once did I feel unsafe walking late at night in this area & around it, I was out outside every night during my 4 night stay up until 11pm-12am. 1 being the worst & 10 being the best, I would give room 309 a 6. No complementary toilet trees, no hair dryer, & no coffee or coffee pot. Also the towels are very small. I would recommend if you are trying to budget & want to be in a nice safe area.

Close to Golden Gate bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts. Easy access to Fisherman's Wharf and downtown SF.

This is a safe, clean and affordable option in San Francisco. The motel is a short distance from many wonderful areas of the city, including the Presidio and Fort Mason, is a block from great restaurants and shops, and there is a bus stop right in front. The rooms are clean and while there is some visible wear and tear, I felt comfortable as a solo female traveler staying here.
