At Graduate by Hilton Madison, travelers highlight the excellent location by UW-Madison and State Street, the fun collegiate decor, and generally friendly service, with many also noting clean spaces that work well for short campus visits.
Rooms are frequently described as small, with tight bathrooms, occasional noise from thin walls, and sporadic issues like uncomfortable beds, loud HVAC or weak Wi-Fi. Facilities draw mixed feedback: valet-only parking and extra fees feel expensive or inconvenient, while the rooftop bar, coffee shop, and campus views are popular; the gym is small and the restaurant quality varies. Expect a lively, well-located base ideal for UW visits if you are comfortable with compact rooms and paid parking.

It is a good hotel for the money. I wish parking wasn't as expensive (valet as there is no parking lot.)

Did not like the idea of valet parking. Way too expensive for the stay. Added $106 to the two day stay. Ridiculous.

We enjoyed our stay in Madison. We were able to find street parking near the hotel, but there is valet available. The amenity fee included drinks at the bar and coffee in the morning. The gym is small, but well equipped. The Peloton membership to use for the bike was a great touch.

This was a very cute and fun hotel right near the college campus. Lots of activity around the area and tons of eating, shopping, and nightlife establishments within walking distance. The only negative issues were that the walls are paper thin. We heard everything from next door and they weren’t even being loud. Trying to sleep in was impossible. Also the parking is horrible. You have to pay for their valet service as there is nowhere else to park. Not sure if I’d stay again just because of those two issues.

Great location, walking distance to UW Madison, lot\'s of food options nearby. Hotel is tastefully appointed with an "old college dorm" theme, very cute. Coffee shop with some breakfast options. Rooftop bar - nice vibes! There is really no street parking, so you\'d have to valet park $34/night. Keep in mind that the valet parking staff does not know how to drive a manual car, I had to park my own (at a discounted price). Overall this a very nice place to stay! My husband and I stayed at this hotel every time we visited our daughter in Madison while she was in college.

I recently stayed at the Graduate Hotel and found the decor to be quite nice, and the location was perfect for exploring the area. However, the room was very small, and the bed was both uncomfortable and undersized. Unfortunately, there was no tea or espresso machine in the room, which was disappointing. The gym was also very small with limited facilities. Overall, while the aesthetics and location were great, the lack of comfort and amenities made the stay less enjoyable.

Hotel is nice but no free parking available. You can only valet so you have to pay parking then tip valet every single time you need your car. Gets Expensive. Nice staff, great location. Bathroom lighting is horrible! One of our party had a horrific smell in their room that they tried to remedy but couldn’t eliminate. They only gave them 50 bucks off their stay.

This hotel is adjacent to the UW Madison campus - right off of state street, with lots of restaurants - very college kid area. For my husband who went to UW Madison 40 years ago, this was a great stay - and for me and our daughter, a great chance to see the places he remembers from college. Hotel is cute, staff is super helpful and friendly, rooms were interesting and clean. A cute stay right next to the College campus.

My experience at Graduate Madison left much to be desired. With the exception of one friendly blonde woman at checkout, the front desk and valet staff were generally unfriendly, unhelpful, and appeared disengaged. At check-in, the valet informed me of an additional early check-in fee—ok fair enough—but when I asked about self-parking alternatives to their steep overnight fee, he simply said he didn’t know. No apology or effort to assist. Odd for a hotel to provide no guidance for alternatives. It was raining when I arrived, and I was leaving my two pieces of luggage at the front desk (waiting for my room), the brunette woman working was reluctant to loan me an umbrella - stating because I “wasn’t yet checked in.” Although she had JUST given an umbrella to the woman in front of me in line. I had to insist for the loan, before she handed it over. It felt unnecessarily petty and unwelcoming. The room itself was dated but expected. However, waking up with with appear to be bug bites (having deduced to having only exposing skin in these areas while sleeping A, and them appearing directly after sleep B)—was deeply concerning. I stayed on the third floor facing the front and took photos to document. Overall, the experience was lackluster and disappointing for a Hilton-affiliated property. I would think twice before returning.

The location of this hotel is perfect and hard to beat - it's very close to campus, State Street, and the Memorial Union. I've stayed in other Graduate hotels in Columbus and Minneapolis, and thought those hotels were nicer than the one in Madison. The room itself was very clean, but it didn't seem to have the funky touches and personality that I've come to expect and appreciate from Graduate. The bathroom was clean but very small - it was difficult to share with another person. The ceiling height in the bathroom was very low (a drop ceiling) which made it seem even smaller. The provided toiletries in the bathroom were very nice - no complaints there. The in-room coffee was instant and not great - I'm not sure if they were trying to lean into the "camping" theme, or were trying to encourage guests to use the in-hotel coffee shop, but it wasn't good. The rooftop restaurant/bar was fun and we had fun drinks and snacks - loved the vibes and the outdoor space. Overall, I recommend the hotel because of the great location, but calling this a 4-star hotel might be a bit of a stretch.

For the price the room was ridiculous. Tiny tiny bed. Both check in and check out clerks were pretty rude. I asked about a room on a higher floor as fraternities outside on street were loud. Told “nope sold out” but funny they had rooms available at every price point in Hilton and Expedia. I guess since so close to campus they feel they don’t need to try.

Staff tried to STEAL wallet! We were so excited because this hotel looked perfect online. Once getting there after a very long drive we were ready to enjoy a meal at the hotel restaurant, but it was overrun w/ partying college kids glaring at us the moment we walked in (so we walked out). Tried walking the neighborhood for a place to eat but the entire neighborhood & all the sidewalks/streets were also overrun w/ rowdy partying kids (& creepy adults trying to party w/ the kids) giving us dirty looks. Ended up having to order GrubHub delivery. Our room felt like a dorm (MUCH smaller than what it looked like online) & partying kids in the room next door. We requested a late check-out which the front desk said yes to. In the AM we received a call telling us we had missed check-out time (in a very rude voice). We then scrambled to get ready to leave-we had taken all our stuff in from our car since it was valet parking only. After bringing our first set of bags down to the lobby, immediately went upstairs to get the rest of our stuff & there was a cleaning person in our room (still not 12pm yet when they had told us our late check-in time was) & my WALLET WAS GONE. I asked the cleaning person if he had seen my wallet, which I know was left on the foot of the bed (& my wallet is blue & stood out on the white sheets) & he said no. It was very clear he had stolen it. Wasn’t until we talked to the manager that we got it back. We travel often & NEVER had a stay this horrible.

Super friendly and helpful staff. The place was impeccably clean. The John Hughes movie vibe was cool as well. We'll be back next time we're in Madison

Great location for a trip to the University of Wisconsin or the state Capitol, or just a weekend trip to Madison. Hotel has a friendly, campus vibe, rooms are nothing fancy but do the trick and good amenities throughout. Location is great for easy access on foot to just about any activity you would want to do there.

Dining
Rooftop bar and coffee shop earn praise for views, drinks, and vibe, but food quality is inconsistent and breakfast options can be limited or closed at times.

This hotel was conveniently located to state Street and the capital building. It was very quiet and comfortable for a couples stay. We were disappointed there was no coffee or limited breakfast available, considering the price of the room.

Great cafe on the first level and bar upstairs. The location is also great. Valet parking was very convenient. I found the bathroom sliding door difficult to open and the room was a little tight, but not surprising for a boutique hotel.

The Graduate is fortunate that they have a fantastic location, because the hotel itself is run down and badly needs a renovation. The lobby and rooms badly need to be upgraded, and I imagine the owners could then get top dollar.
