What guests think

At Best Western Athens Inn, travelers repeatedly highlight convenient access off I-65, walkable dining, generally clean rooms with laminate floors, and friendly, efficient staff, making it a practical stopover for road trips and pet-friendly stays.

The property is older with exterior-entry rooms and no elevator, which some guests found inconvenient. Reviews note recurring maintenance issues like tricky door locks, noisy or weak AC, slow drains, intermittent Wi‑Fi/TV, occasional damp or smoky odors, and mixed mattress comfort and noise. Breakfast is widely praised for hot variety, though a few found items bland, dried out, or not replenished. Expect a basic, budget-friendly motel stop that trades amenities for convenience.

I was a little skeptical at first because the price was so good. But the facility was nice, staff were friendly, rooms were clean, beds were really comfortable, pool was clean and inviting, breakfast was great with many options, parking was close to room, dining options within walking, pet friendly, and right off the highway!

We wnjoyed our stay here. It was only one night on a weekday. The staff was very nice, polite and informative. The parking lot was a little small but it wasn't overcrowded either. There were restaurants on either side and a short walk down the road. I honestly did not pay attention to the available shopping. We did not use the pool but it looked clean and maintained. Our room was clean and neat. Even though we were right off the interstate, it was pretty quiet. No complaints. I would stay here again if i were in the area.

We booked this place because everyone else was sold out. There was a reason. Room was dirty. Smelled of cigarettes when it's supposed to be non smoking, feet stuck to the floor. I guess that's why it was the only available hotel. Only one night, got up early and got out!

This BW makes a really nice first impression with a clean, and appealing, first impression. Lobby, and dining area, were given thought and also make a really good first impression. Room was not clean - IT WAS ULTRA CLEAN! Heck, not only did the clock in the room work, it was accurate! Seriously, this location is a solid 5 star and this team should be proud.

Our Best Western stay was enjoyable. Rooms are set up for comfort. Water pressure is great and hot water is plentiful. Cleanliness was good except for the long dark hair left by the former tenant. Both the bath tub and the sink counter had hair left behind.

I appreciated the cleanliness of the room, and the breakfast was great. The room is in need of updating and clearly has been maintained by non professionals who don't know what they're doing. Terrible looking, unpainted drywall repairs for example. The real reason for the bad review is the horrible worn out mattress. It was very uncomfortable and unpleasant for someone with back problems. They need new mattresses to continue having guests here

I had higher hopes. The location is what it is; It was convenient and right off the main highway so a little loud, which is totally understandable. The bar was that unfortunately, after a long travel day, there was no hot water in the as there was a repair being done so it was shut off. The bed was creaky and not very comfortable, and the AC was very loud when it would kick on every half hour or so. Trying to go to sleep without a shower and feeling sticky, after a hot 14 hour travel day in an uncomfortable bed with a loud AC was not ideal. I spoke to the manager the next morning and she seems super dismissive and only gave me a $10 discount off the room which didn’t leave me feeling good.

Overall the staff tried to be helpful. I did have a problem with the WIFI in my room and went to the front desk for assistance. The first team helped me and the WIFI worked in the lobby. When I went back to the room it did not. I stated something to the front desk in the morning about it not working in my room. The response I got was it is working here in the lobby, and she did not offer to look into the problem. As I was checking out the next day, I mentioned it and the manager said they were not aware of the issue and would get IT out to find out what the issue was. Great for the next person, not good for me when I really needed to get some work done.

The staff was friendly but that ends the positive portion of this review. The door to the room hung loosely in it's frame and had to be pulled toward you and lifted for the electronic key to work. Tiles in the bathroom that had fallen off were sloppily caulked back in place leaving gaps for dirt and debris to accumliate. The WiFi signal was too week to be functional. There was a chance at redemption at breakfast but wasn't realized. The food was so dried out and stale as to render it virtually inedible. IMHO, the $30 pet fee was excessive since time had done way more damage than a little Frenchie could possibly do.

Nadia, Heather and Karen. All three of them deserve a raise and promotion. From. The moment I talked to them on and off for about a week it was amazing. The southern hospitality was amazing, they helped me get a rate that beat my Expedia one. They helped my elderly auntie get the perfect room. They made sure to note every detail I asked for. Only down side was room 113 wasn't clean. How ever Karen took ownership of it, apologized and helped make our day. It wasn't about the money that made everything great. These three seemlessly helped make my sons, Auntie, cousins and myself our stay memorable. If we ever come back to Athens Alabama, definitely will be coming back here. Thank yall!

Had to wait for front desk person to check in- was 25 minutes when I actually checked my watch- by then I had been waiting and even tried walking in and out. got in the room, unpacked and settled and air conditioning not working. Miserable night sleep trying to ventilate with bathroom fan. Front desk was less than helpful- if I had to go through the effort to get dressed and repack- I would have just left. I was exhausted and already irritated check in took so long.

We were traveling to Florida and found Best Western as an option to stay. We were booking two rooms for an overnight stop after a long 13 hour day. Booking was easy, front desk staff was friendly, helpful and process of check in was quick. Room accommodations were nice, clean, quiet and next door to Applebees’s. Cost was more affordable then area hotels. We enjoyed the breakfast and the women working in the AM was super nice and accommodating for our group of 5. We will definitely be back!

Check in took over 30 minutes because Best Western did not have my reservation that I had made with Expedia. The checking clerk was nice but both she and I had to speak with Expedia agents. Plenty of food choices including soy and almond milks, yogurts, freshly made pancakes, cinnamon toast and bagels, eggs, sausage and gravy to name a few. The coffee is rich and hot. They offer breakfast bars and pop tarts and a host of toppings for the oatmeal. Our room was clean and spacious. It smelled good. No musty smells or bad odors. We stay there every time we visit Athens. Southern hospitality at its finest and the price is right.
