What guests think

At La Quinta by Wyndham Lakeland West, travelers often praise the friendly staff, pet-friendly policy, a convenient I-4 location near dining and shopping, ample parking, and a pool that families enjoy after long drives or nearby events.

Cleanliness feedback is highly mixed, with repeated reports of roaches, musty or smoke odors, stained carpets, and mold, contrasted by some reviews noting spotless rooms and thorough daily service. Rooms tend to be spacious but dated, and guests report maintenance issues such as weak A/C, malfunctioning locks or TVs, and humidity; Wi-Fi is often described as fast. Facilities and dining are basic: the hot tub is closed, elevators and ice machines can be out and the gym is limited, while breakfast varies from hot items to very limited, and some guests felt the area unsafe at night. Expect a budget stay with convenient access, but variable condition and reliability.

1 out of 5 stars. One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The room had cockroaches crawling everywhere all night, and there was a terrible, sharp, almost toxic smell that made it hard to breathe. It was impossible to sleep. Totally unacceptable conditions. I strongly do not recommend this place until they fix these serious hygiene and cleanliness issues.

Roaches. I woke up to them. Also the main elevator didn’t work. Everyone had to walk all the way through the main floor to what seemed like the emergency elevator near the back exit. Waking up to roaches was worst. They were on the bed.

La Quinta West unfortunately fell far short of expectations during our stay. Upon entering the room, there was a strong damp and unpleasant odor that immediately made the environment feel unclean. We booked two rooms for our family. Just to start the rooms were dirty, had pests, smalled bad and had visible stains on the walls and furniture. The sofa was particularly stained, contributing to an overall sense of neglect. Despite the hotel staff’s willingness to change our rooms when we raised concerns, the roach problem persisted, which is unacceptable for any accommodation. The presence of roaches in multiple rooms clearly indicates poor hygiene and pest control measures. Overall, the hotel is in dire need of a thorough deep cleaning and major renovation. Removing old rugs and addressing the dampness would make the rooms comfortable and safe for guests. Until these improvements are made, I cannot recommend staying at this hotel due to its filthy conditions and pest issues.

Absolutely disgusting. Roaches in the bathroom along with hair on the ground from other guests. The carpet looked like a crime scene. The hot tub they show on line was bricked over. They offered a breakfast in the morning but I couldn’t bring myself to eat anything that came from that hotel. The elevator didn’t have a 2 button so I had to go to the other elevator at the other end of the building to my room on the second floor just to find out they didn’t key the card right and had to go back down with my bags. The bathroom door sticks and I couldn’t pull it open. Luckily my nephew was in the room and got me out. The blanket was tissue thin. All in all gross! The only redeeming factor is the hot water was hot and good water pressure

This hotel is really nice and fairly priced. I stayed 10 days for just over 800 bucks. The property itself is a bit rundown, only one of the elevators works, theres some stains on the carpet and holes in the walls lol. In our room some of the hardware like lights, hairdryer, ect. Didn't work, also the minifridge freezes anything you stick in it. But the staff is super friendly, polite, and helpful and the pool is clean and cute. The whole place is comfy and homey and if you need a place to sleep while you go on daytime adventures this is the perfect place. If you're looking for more of a romantic hotel or something more upscale then maybe look somewhere else. Great place to bring kids and pets to, though. Next time I'm in Lakeland, I'll be staying here again!

The price, compared to other locations was good. We had reserved a room with two beds, and were given one bed. Went back to the front and were reassigned to a two bed room. This air conditioner was inefficient and didn't work well. It left the room still humid. And in Florida that is not good. The bathroom did not have an air vent fan or air conditioning. And one night we came home and housekeeping had been in the room earlier and the door didn't get closed properly. It also that same night smelled like marijuana in the room, which was very unpleasant to us.

Check in was a nightmare and they ran my card earlier even though it said PAY AT DESK with no warning that they were “overbooked or full” and needed to pre run cards and cancel anyone’s card who got declined- if you’re going with a group and use one card for hotels only this was a joke then when I had to do several transfers they didn’t even mention or charge or include the incidental fee. Hotel smelled like a wet cig. Almost slipped and fell in lobby checking in. No one cleaned our room for 3 days trash overflowing no TP

Ice machines were all out of order but one on the main floor. Floors were gross in the hallways. Sticky floors in the entrance and the room itself had doors to the restroom u can see through so no privacy to use toilet. Also. At the end of our stay we saw roaches.

Very courteous staff (Custodian was very happy and seemed to enjoy interacting with people). Room Service (something that is difficult to find nowadays) did a great job -DAILY-. I like having my room freshened up, room service even folded a pair of my Wranglers for me that I'd left out. Place is undergoing renovation, but I thought the staff overall was great and I appreciate their efforts.

We were evacuated from St. Petersburg by Helene. We couldn’t have found a better refuge. Great, friendly staff made all the difference in our mental health. Large, clean rooms in a place that was pet friendly. Good areas to walk dogs. Beautiful secluded pool - even though we were not able to use it. All that with a great price. Thank you to the owners and staff.

Worst hotel I've ever stayed, free breakfast was pathetic, same thick gravy & biscuits served everyday, no eggs, no fruit, no donuts or danish, no honey not even considered a continental breakfast. Stayed 9 days, booked 2 rooms much in advance got good price was going to check out but rates were too high aroubd area so stayed, no security in or around building..sigh on back entry door said must use key to enter but all you had to do was turn door lever & it opened..shady people in lobby & around building. 2nd friend's room had roaches, dirty stained carpet, toilet & tub appeared painted & surface peeling..no housekeeping on certain days, had to make own beds & go to front desk to get clean towels & toiletries..wasn't told of no service. Only one staff member, Joy, was helpful & courtesy. Would not recommend La Quinta West & will never stay there again.
