The Goodwin

Hotel is gorgeous. Rooms are large and beautiful. Highly recommended if your in Hartford for a few days. Restaurant is very good and staff amazing. Lounge fun for coctails and baretender great. Friday night is however very noisy....band in the lounge and people partying hard.

We were in desperate need of a place to stay for the evening after calling every hotel in a 50 mile radius with no vacancies. Finally we called the Goodwin at 9:00pm and they did have 9 rooms available. We explained that we were in need of a room and they told us that the price was 631.00. We asked since this was a last min. booking and that we would only be there less than 10 hours ( we had to catch an early morning flight) that they could give us a discount. They said no. We have never spent that much on a hotel and were stunned but we had no choice and did it. The room was nice but nothing about it was worth 631.00!! In the morning I went to the gym and both elliptical's were broken, the TV was not working and it was dirty. There were 2 bottles of water in the room for an extra 3.00 per. bottle. We had to go to a different floor to get ice. There was also only valet parking for an extra 40.00. When I came home from our trip I went on the websites and saw that the room that we stayed in was listed for 359.00!!!! They totally price gouged us because we had no choice. I would never stay there again and feel like they totally took advantage of the situation and us!

Loved the hotel. Only suggestion is improving the gym, bike was broken… but space great!

Clean, staff very nice, one elevator took forever to come, because they were busy.

Very clean and comfortable. We had to use the service elevator because our room was on the 6th floor and the regular elevator was out of service for the 6th.

There were no options for food or drinks at the hotel on Sunday and Monday.

Love that the hotel was dog friendly. Only downside is the restaurant in the hotel did not offer room service.

The beautiful smell in the lobby hits you and calmness comes. Service friendly and professional. Cleanliness is the cleanest I have seen. The bed was amazing and I slep like a baby for a first time in a long time. Location is great!!

Rooms were large, you’re right in the middle of everything. Only down fall is I found someone else’s q tip pushed down the side of the sofa. Overall great room would stay there again

Worse hotel experience in my life. Had to change rooms 3 times due to broken equipment(shower and thermostat. It was 90° in the room) and poor housekeeping.One of the room they changed us to had dried white stains all over the couch. God only knows what that was. The overall aesthetics of the hotel is very nice and so was the staff.

Disappointing property. No warm greeting, just we need an ID and credit card. There was nothing 5 star about this hotel. No offer to help with luggage or overview of what was at the property. Walked off to find our room and there was huge stains in the hallway carpet. Got to the room which was very big but not bright. A lot of windows but the windows are filthy. Haven’t been cleaned in years. It was beyond apparent and I was a bit taken back. I turned and I wasn’t sure if bed linens had been changed because the bed was poorly made. I probably would have thought the bed was just poorly made but I questioned it because of how dirty the windows were. Big bathroom with cloth shower curtain, no robes and generic product. Very disappointed as we were looking for a good property to stay at when we visit son in college. Said oh well to myself not a good choice and we checked out the next morning not to return again.

I stayed at this hotel in October 2021, and we had such a wonderful experience, we decided to stay over on our trip from Virginia to Cape Cod. This time, i was disappointed. We had to change rooms because one of the beds in our first room had a dirty duvet and hair on the sheets. The sheets in our second room, on both beds, were REALLY dingy....and the mattresses on both beds need to be replaced. The staff, and valet were extremely professional and courteous.

Dirty rooms, Peeling paint, holes in wall. I found dirty panties and a hairbrush in closet shelf and tuck in couch.

Property was beautiful and clean.

The pillows were too high/large and the a/c vent blew on out heads at night.

What a lovely renovated, boutique hotel! The room was large, bathroom and amenities were top notch. I always appreciated a nice robe! We were very satisfied with out stay.

This is a beautiful hotel, with very nicely decorated lobby and rooms. However, some updates are required: our mattress was not comfortable and seemed old with soft springs. Also, be aware there is a constant noise outside that was hard to block out with earplugs.

No room service, bummer. Gave us a roomm with no windows, thankfully there was a different one and we were moved there. Not worth the price at all!!!

Nice, modern, comfortable hotel. Found some good restaurants around the hotel. Enjoyed walking to Bushnell Park. There was an annoying buzzing noise outside of my window, which made sleeping inconvenient.

It's an old hotel with thin walls and floors so chairs moved or people talking is quite audible. The toilet seat was loose which we told them about. There were design issues like the water faucet's spout was too long for the sink so the water invariably splashed out of the sink. And the bed was lumpy. It seemed old and in need of replacing. The outside of the hotel did not come close to how it is presented in the picture. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how they took the picture. I would not stay there again.

My room was huge! It was a suite on the top floor with dual skylights and plenty of space for one person or a family up to 5. The hotel including the rooms are decorated beautifully taking you back to a period of time yet with a modern new age twist.

The hotel and room was beautiful! Great location, lots of restaurants to walk to. The only issue I had was when I arrived, the valet told me I could park on the street for free until Sunday instead of paying the 42.00 to park.( checked in on Saturday) He showed me where to park, and I asked if I was ok to park there because it was supposed to snow, he said “Yes, your good!!” Well, I realized when I looked out the window no cars were parked on the street. Went down to my truck and had a 100.00 ticket. Spoke to the front desk as I wasn’t happy and was told they couldn’t do anything and then Charged me 42.50 to valet park my truck as there is no parking in the street and the only way to use the parking garage was to valet park.. so parking cost me 142.50 plus 10 tip to the valet guy.

Pros: large room, clean, quiet, convenient location Cons: outdated interiror, inconvenient hallway access with steps, and unhelpful staff: the vale was standing inside, did not bother to even open the doors, noone came out to help with luggages. Also, there was no water in the room while the front desk person insisted that there should be 2 bottles. They did not bother to bring it to the room. I went down to pick up. Then I saw they added $8 to my bill fo 2 bottles of water which were supposed to be in the room.

Great staff, friendly service and very accommodating

The air conditioning was great. The room was nice and chill. They have large fluffy towels and plenty of them. The staff is always friendly and has good energy. The hotel also always smells great. The down side of this trip was that we paid a lot more for the room than we have before because there was a lot going on in Hartford. This was our 6th visit. It is our go to place when we go to see our son at college. We will be back in a week.

I booked a room weeks in advance for the Capitol Groove Music Festival that was conveniently held 2 blocks away from the hotel at Bushnell Park. I got to the Goodwin hotel at about 11am and I was surprised I was able to get valet parking and leave my bag at the front desk before the 3pm check-in time. Every staff member was very friendly. Definitely coming back for next year’s Capitol Groove Music Festival! 🤩⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🤩

The Goodwin Hotel has a lot of potential, but it just didn’t quite deliver the boutique experience it promises. The location in downtown Hartford is convenient, and the suite we booked was very spacious—that was really the highlight of our stay. Unfortunately, the overall experience didn’t meet expectations. For the price, we were surprised there was no bellman available. We had to carry our own luggage to the room and get settled on our own, which isn’t what you expect from a boutique hotel. When we walked in, the lobby didn’t smell fresh, and the vibe from other guests felt a bit off. Our suite, while large, also didn’t smell fresh or inviting. It seems like the hotel could really benefit from better ventilation or even a signature scent to make the space feel more welcoming. The service was also lacking. I went down to the front desk around 6:30 a.m. asking for orange juice and towels. They had neither. By 7:15 a.m., after following up again, I was told housekeeping wouldn’t be in until 8:30 a.m.—even though we had to leave by 8. I suggested they grab towels from an empty room, and thankfully, the manager came in and brought them to me. Overall, The Goodwin has the bones to be a great hotel, but it needs to step up its customer service, amenities, and attention to detail. Right now, it doesn’t live up to the boutique label, and for the price, we expected a much better experience.

I liked that the room was decently clean and modern. When I checked in the valet just gestured me to come inside from his podium vs coming out and helping me which was off putting. He was very short and cold. Both front desk girl didn't smile and was not welcoming at all. Very cold. It was weird. The bell ended up coming and helping me with my bags which I brought in myself. The bell was very nice and courteous. He's the only one that smiled and was welcoming. I think his name is Justin. The day time and night valet are super nice its the guy in the morning that was not helpful at all.

Staff were very nice and helpful. Room expensive considering there is no in room dining or real breakfast served. Unfortunately the area is eerily quiet on weekends with nothing open in the area. Glad we only had to stay one night

Beautiful hotel with friendly service staff. Centrally located.

This is a boutique hotel with clean and designed room. I specially liked their bathroom design. Very elegant. I think the location is good for taking Amtrak at the Union station. The city was quiet on Sunday with rare people and not too many stores opened. The hotel stay made me feel safe and enjoyed. The front desk staff also borrowed me a type C cord for my iPhone and told me where was possible to buy the cord. Very helpful! I enjoyed the pleasant stay in a strange downtown of Hartford

We enjoyed our stay at the Goodwin. The staff was wonderful—helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and the beds comfy. The location is not ideal. The area is not that walkable, and there were no restaurants within easy walking distance. They being said, I’d stay again if I were visiting this area.

Its in a nice central area of downtown and was quiet.

Elegant hotel in Downtown Hartford. We were in town for a local graduation and had a great stay.

The property had a good sized room and a good center to do work. However, no one inquired as to whether they could assist my wife with her bag and there is no where to have a quick meal in the hotel. Additionally, Hartford is a less than safe and inviting city. Good thing the cars are kept inside and secure. Had the been outside I would have not stayed.

Great place to stay in Hartford, walkable to the Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford Stage & many nice restaurants. From the hotel, there’s an easy bus ride to visit the Mark Twain House and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center.

The property is beautiful, very near to the XL Center, staff is great. Life music at night, complimentary coffee and breakfast snacks are part of the hotel amenities.

USB outlets were not working in the room. Cables we left hanging down from the TV. Bed was so close to the closet that you couldn’t open the door all the, which meant you couldn’t use the safe inside of it. The thermostat was mounted directly below the heat vent, fooling the indications, had to turn the heat to 78 degrees just to get a little warmth in the room. No ice machines on Even floors. No coffee in the room, which is an insane way to save money.

Nice hotel, nice decoration, but it has no restsurant. You can have coffee but at 10:00 am they were already out of coffee. I needed a cart for my bags and they did not have one available. Seems understaffed.

The staff is so helpful and kind! The hotel was VERY clean. A couple of things to note. There is not breakfast, BUT there is a coffee and tea bar with a different variety of foods such as muffins, yogurts, oatmeal, and fruit! If you are a water drinker, they have free water at reception or they have water for purchase in rooms. Overall, a great stay though!

Everything was great but there was no coffee or breakfast options for breakfast, Starbucks is less than a 5 minute walk but it would be nice to have some type of room service or coffee and donuts in the lobby.
