Hampton Inn by Hilton Calexico

What guests think

Across recent reviews of Hampton Inn by Hilton Calexico, travelers frequently highlight clean, comfortable rooms, friendly service, and a convenient location near restaurants and the border, while noting recurring facility and maintenance issues that sometimes disrupt otherwise straightforward stays.

Several guests report strong, sewer-like odors in common areas and occasionally in rooms, with hallways and the lobby noted most often. Breakfast feedback is mixed: some praise it, while others cite poor quality or wish for earlier hours, and a few stays saw check-in delays or reservation hiccups. Elevators were repeatedly out of service or trapping riders, and there were isolated reports of a closed hot tub, a blocked stairwell, and ground-floor bathrooms being shut. Overall, it works for practical stopovers if you confirm elevator availability and can tolerate occasional operational issues.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The two rooms that I got were clean and quiet. The breakfast was good and well rounded. On the other hand - I got stuck on the elevator, My son got stuck on the elevator. Not just once, but two, three, four times. To the point where it was scary and we wouldn't take our 2 year old on it. We used the stairs at the far end of the hallway with her. We only used the elevator for luggage. We had two TV's in my room. Great! Neither of them worked! not so great, especially when I was taking care of my granddaughter and wanted to play some cartoons or maybe watch some football on a Sunday early in the afternoon! They tried to fix them. No luck. They tried to find another room. No luck. It all took a bunch of time and really disturbed what we had hoped would be a gentle, restful night in-between long drives. I'm afraid to say I will have to check out other hotels before returning. Sorry.

First room smelled musty and the AC wasn’t working so they moved us to another room. BUT both rooms were on the 2nd floor and the elevator was out of order so we had to carry our bags up two flights of stairs. My husband is 80 and I’m 75. Even though the parking lot didn’t appear to be that busy we were told all rooms on the 1st floor were taken. 😵‍💫. Not a lot of choices in Calexico.

The hallways smelled bad as there was an old odor that came from either the carpet in the hallways. The breakfast was not good had gotten sick due to the waffle mixture as it was more watery than thick as it should have been. The breakfast could use an upgrade and hallways would have been better if there was a fresh smell. The room originally reserved was given to someone else that said had already been at the hotel for over a month and was given the second floor suite when was given the third floor suite. Need better communication with the hotel guests when rooms are reserved.

I would say help the third floor with the smell. Rooms are clean, but that hallway smell should be inspected. Can breakfast start earlier? Most people that go to Calexico is for work and they usually start at 5am so there are definitely too many people that are unable to utilize the free breakfast. Maybe have some pastries near the coffee in the mornings. I'm sure your customers that leave at 4 or 5am would appreciate it.

The check in is always the starting point of a joyous and wonderful stay. I had to wait almost an hour to get checked in when there were other employees who could have jumped in to make sure there wasn’t such a long waiting line. Over 45 minutes later, I was given a room that I did not reserve for. The rooms were simply not ready.
