Not quite what we expected. It was under construction. Ceilings leaked water on us, almost slipped in the elevator because of the water on the floor. Couldn't access the laundry/ice room because of all the paint buckets and debris. The carpet on the second floor was soaked. The carpet leading to our room was filled with paint shoe marks. Maybe once the renovation is done it'll be a different experience. Ours was not good.

Hotel is under construction because it apparently needs it. Ice machine not even working, hair in the drains, some of the support beams seemed not securely in place. Have to listen to construction all day and the hotel does not look good currently. There were no food amenities and even the coffee lids did not fit. Overall poor experience.

This is a difficult review. I had wanted to try out this hotel for a while. However, the hotel is currently undergoing renovations (through end of October, 2026). I will review my experience but offer caveats for future visits. The location seemed great - at the edge of Rome's downtown business district. They also have an on-site restaurant and bar (though they did not include breakfast with the booking). The architecture was interesting also - built into what appears to be an old brick warehouse along the Oostanaula River. We arrived a bit after 3 p.m. on a Friday. We stopped outside the entrance, which was blocked by construction equipment. I entered as directed by signage via a side door. When I entered the atrium, it became apparent that the entire hotel was undergoing a major interior renovation. I checked in and the lady on duty noted the work. She also mentioned that it was listed on the hotel's website. I booked via a 3rd party app, so I had no idea this was ongoing. If I'd known, I definitely would have booked elsewhere. I checked later and, to the hotel's credit, there was a muted banner on the home page noting the construction and associated restaurant closure for the duration. This wasn't the hotel's fault or my fault, but it detracted from the experience. The hotel upgraded us to a suite (probably because of the construction), which was nice - it had lots of space and a full-sized refrigerator. We got to our room and tried to relax. My wife opted for a nap

We are locals, but stayed at Hawthorn when going to a concert at the nearby Forum because it's in walking distance. The hotel offers free breakfast (although we left too early to take advantage of it). The downside is that even though you're a hotel guest who's stayed several times, you still have to pay separately for parking in the hotel's own parking lot. But the proximity to our venue as well as walking distance to nearby restaurants made it still worthwhile to us.
