Field Guide Lodge

We wanted a hotel were we could stay put and thought we made a great choice…so much for that! Pool was green cloudy and closed, we were never told. The bar had no rum at all, no gin at all. We picked this hotel to stay and spend our two days and nights and just relax. What was described wasn’t offered. We have booked many times through hotels.com and have never been disappointed. We spent almost $1000 and for a very disappointing stay.

We loved our stay here! Loved being able to reserve the hot tub and breakfast was great too!

The hotel has a fun personality. The bar and common areas are nice. Disappointed that they only had stairs- no elevator. We are at the first days of a 10 day trip and had a lot to haul up the stairs. Room and bathroom were clean and good to stay in.

Stopped here on a road trip of the six states of New England, great relaxed feel with very helpful staff. The hot tub is a nice touch too!

Exceeded our expectations. We had the King Suite, with super cute decor and stand alone bathtub. The lodge was clean, comfy, and felt very safe. We enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and fire pit. There was also complimentary grab and go breakfast and coffee, as well as an espresso machine. The front desk staff was super friendly and accommodating.

Had a room with a great view; great location and the hotel has been nicely renovated. Recommend the Restaurants in walking distance and scenic walking area. Unfortunately, the pool was closed but we were able to use the pool at the Sister hotel next-door.

Great location and a nice layout. With a little more attention to detail, it could be great. The pool hasn’t been treated, the balcony was dirty, the fireplace needed some tlc. It seems like a quick update on an old property instead of investing in an entirely new experience.

I have stayed at the Field Guide about 10 times over the past 4 years. It is a quaint and cozy spot with genuinely helpful staff. The gem of the location is the first floor of the main lodge, which features several large living room spaces with fireplaces. People solo or in groups make use of these comfortable spaces to read, play games, enjoy each other’s company. The bar area features a small menu with a selection of food and drinks. They have a fairly nice beer and whiskey selection, making use of local producers. The rooms are clean, modern and functional within a rustic woodsy structure. The Summit rooms are larger, basically small suites. The location is close to the village, several restaurants within walking distance.

Had a very nice stay. Hotel was lovely and extremely clean. Looked brand new! Breakfast was great.

Property was beautiful and well appointed. Loved the outdoor fire pit. Breakfast was yummy. Our room was small and didn’t seem the cleanest.

We had high expectations of the stay based on the reviews online but were under impressed with our stay. In terms of price - you get low value for the quality of the room (this is also considering during “low season”. We stayed in a lodge king - the room had low ceilings, was hot and musky (they had AC but it was weak no ventilation), and needed an update. The bathroom had lots of mildew in the shower, was tiny (not like pictures as advertised online) and smelled (again poor ventilation). We asked for our room to be cleaned during our stay and it was not. The highlight of the room was the bed - it was really comfortable. Staff were nice and helpful when they were around but they seemed a short staffed the whole weekend / nowhere to be found. Breakfast though was simple but good. Looking back, we probably should’ve stayed at the Fairfield Inn down the road instead of this “boutique hotel” and would have had a more comfortable stay.

Good location really nice bedroom but the bathroom is too small , could be better cleaned

The hotel was very clean and the staff was very accommodating with the few requests we had. They were amazing and the location is great for everything in the area. I would highly recommend this place!

Clearly deficient cleanliness. Rooms lacking care and investment. Wooden windows that don't lock, without soundproofing or insulation, dirty carpets that have been well washed from one end, indescribable dirt in the carpets, central shelf structures rusty and almost unusable, damaged window frames, stains on the walls, shower with mold in the corners, rails on the walls, stained blinds that are non-functional and still crease. As a bonus, a difference in height of a good 6 inches from one end to the other of the bed floor, giving a negative slope towards the head. It's not serious in 2025 to offer this to customers with all the choices on the market. I will not return to this hotel. Your chain, Lark Hotels, must be rigorous, inspect its franchises and request the necessary corrections to maintain quality according to standards. Give me a few reasons why I should trust Lark Hotels in the future?

Room for 4 people is super small. Barely enough room to walk around the bed. Very little space for clothes. No shelf at all in bathroom—not in shower, not around sink/toilet area. Room not clean—carpets stained, heavy layer of dust on the decorative pipes running above the beds, hairs and dust on the window ledges, dust on the track for the bathroom door. Bathroom door is barn-style, sliding open and closed. Latch to lock. Latch is too loose, so door slides back a bit and eliminates privacy for person in bathroom. Positives: beautiful design in common areas and in room. Quiet. Nice to have breakfast included. Easy check in.

Photos should be updated to show current condition. The rooms are VERY small, especially bathroom. Rooms are very worn out & not as clean as felt they should be

This was my second time at this property and I appreciate that we were upgraded to a suite as it had more space. I also appreciate the water bottles and their breakfast is amazing. The quiche and croissants are amazing. They had the quiche this time but no croissants maybe they serve them only on weekends. I appreciate that they have smart tv but they need to update the remotes and battery as the one in the bedroom didn’t work. Also, I think they need to be more diligent when cleaning the rooms they just don’t feel very clean to me. Even the lobby it seems very dusty and the air is very heavy. I think they need to air out the rooms on daily basis and they need new curtains and some of the furnitures were stained. They should also clean behind the curtains. The bed covers were not cotton I think polyester which caused constant static electricity. The air is very very dry we couldn’t breathe my lips got chapped even with the heater turned off all night.

A nice hotel with lots to see within a few minutes walk but overall, just a bit pricey for what you get. We paid $460 a night ($600 plus Cdn) for a nice stay, but simply not worth anything close to that. Service was excellent and room was good, but not great. Shower pressure was weak and very uncomfortable for anyone over about six feet.

The breakfast is very good. Room is clean, staff are helpful. The location is very convenient, close to several restaurants (Bench is across street, Backyard is next door). Free Shuttle to Stowe is also near by.The only complaint is the shower water pressure is a little bit low. Will come back.

It didn't seem to be well insulated and there was quite a large gap underneath the door to the room. Otherwise, everything else was great. There appeared to be a short staff issue as someone was never really at the front desk, but had a sign saying they were out helping other staff members. Upon ringing the bell or calling the number given on the sign, they promptly arrived to help. The lobby/lounge/bar area was super comfy and cozy with plush furniture and a nice warm fire going. We needed to extend our stay another night, and they were quick at getting us taken care of. We also appreciated the distance from stores/restaurants. We were able to walk just about anywhere. We would for sure stay here again.

LOVED the location, easy walk to downtown Stowe where all the shops and restaurants are. My complaint is that it’s dog friendly in select rooms and the walls are THIN. You can hear everything. The large dog in the room across from me barked all night and I complained. Live music until 9pm so don’t plan on any quiet until late night. Other than that, it is reallly cute.

Comfortable bed, nice fireplace, cold bathroom.

We stayed in room 202. The bathtub is awesome. The room is very big and vast, and the decorations are awesome too. The bed was super comfortable. My only complaint was a squeaky floors.

Property itself is a great location and hotel is nicely updated. However the walls and ceiling are so thin you can hear everything coming from the floor above and outside the room. Made it very disruptive to sleep or relax in the room. The bed itself had a very weird slant so your head ended up being lower than your feet. Staff was pleasant and hotel itself was nicely kept just the issues with the all the noise and the bed were significant enough to lower the rating

The king suite is the perfect accommodations to make for a super spacious and comfortable stay. The location of The Field Guide is also hard to beat, not to mention their hospitality. We will definitely be back!

Torn on my review. The common area downstairs was an amazing vibe. Bar and lounge areas super cute with live music from 6-9pm. Other than that would not stay here again. My room was VERY small, hot, no storage for personal items and was the same price as a much larger room. It was 80 degrees with the AC running and the front desk simply told me “yeah the third floor rooms are just hot”.

Upon entering the hotel, Aiden greeted us and she has such amazing energy as well as a great sense of humor…she wore so many hats… she the concierge, the elevator (the couple ahead of us checking in asked where the elevator was and she said she was the elevator and helped them with their luggage), bartender, chef, and housekeeping..and possibly more. Also, the chia pudding at breakfast was absolutely fabulous and she told me how to make it which is currently in my fridge waiting for us to sample it when it’s ready! The rooms were so cute and clean. We absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend staying here! Definitely and 11 out of 10!

Easy check in and helpful front desk

The hotel was very clean and the staff was very accommodating with the few requests we had. They were amazing and the location is great for everything in the area. I would highly recommend this place!

One of the worst check-in experiences - we arrived to find the hotel closed for the night. We called the help number listed on the door, and the woman who answered (erroneously) told us to go to another building. That was also locked, so we called back and had to walk back to the original building. The bartender kindly let us in (thank goodness she was there!) where we found our key. But no map - we had NO idea where to go. We wandered around for a while and tried a door that matched our room number, but couldn't get in. We had to call a third time and found out we were in a different building. All this info was emailed to us around 9:40 (after our arrival!), then texted around 11:30pm (again, after our arrival!). We couldn't get into our actual room because the key was crooked, it took nearly 10 minutes to get in. In speaking with housekeeping the next day, we discovered "that door never works." UGH, why not fix it?! The room was fine, though my advice to the hotel is to work on the standard items (maps and info for guests, working doors, a full-length mirror in your suites, and a light in the bathroom that's bright enough to apply makeup) before focusing on the extras (welcome bag).

The Field Guide Lodge was a nice place to stay near downtown Stowe. The staff was friendly.

Attentive management, superb breakfast and coffee, comfortable common areas, clean and comfortable rooms. When in Stowe, I always stay at the Field Guide (I have over 25 nights at this point).

I loved how friendly everyone was and how beautifully the hotel was arranged. It felt very luxurious yet cozy. This was my first time staying at a Lark hotel and I will definitely be coming back!

We wanted a unique place to stay that had a lodge or inn like feel and not a big chain hotel. This fit the bill. The location is ideal. It is a short 1/4 mile walk to the Main Street down a sidewalk and across a covered pedestrian bridge. There are restaurants directly across the street from the inn or on Main Street. There are others nearby if you have a vehicle. There are beautiful views of the mountains no matter where you are in town. Ski, snowboard and other outdoor rentals are also close. There is a wonderful 5 mile path that you can access across the street from the inn and it meanders through the town. There are hiking trails on the mountain directly behind the inn too. There are many hiking trails and waterfalls all over the Stowe area. There is plenty of parking in front of the inn and on the backside of the inn. All of the parking is very close to an entrance. The backside of the inn has chairs for sitting outside and a fire pit that is often burning. Unfortunately it rained a lot while we were there so we didn’t get to use it as much. There is also a large covered side deck that has corn hole and plenty of tables for sitting, eating or playing other games. The lobby, bar and eating area on the first floor are hip, trendy, calming, decorated with an outdoor, natural vibe and includes some fun snow skiing items too. One disappointment was that the bar area was not open during our stay only seems to be available over the weekend , a shame for your guests staying outside this time - maybe an honesty bar would be a good idea ?

The location was perfect for being in downtown Stowe. Our room was great. We also enjoyed the bar and the various seating areas near fireplaces and heaters.

Enjoyed our stay. Very convenient for skiing at Stowe. Nice lobby/lodge area where you can hang out if you want. The light breakfast option was perfect for us and set out earlier enough to hit first chair. Close to everything.

A great cosy hotel close to Stowe city centre and ski slopes.

It was such a beautiful property within walking distance to the Main Street shops and multiple restaurants including The Bench and the Skinny Pancake. Only 10 minutes from the mountain as well! Absolutely loved our stay!

Cozy and convenient location between Stowe ski resort and Stowe Village

Beautifully decorated with eclectic furnishings and cozy sitting areas with fireplaces throughout the lobby and first floor. Great location within walking distance of restaurants and shopping, Excellent customer service and communication before, during and after our stay.

the breakfast was awful, sorry, but salty croissants with coarse salt for breakfast not very good. A little more variety perhaps.

Truly outstanding complimentary breakfast.

Admittedly, it is high ski season in Stowe. Lodges are competitively booked. The cost per night did not align with the experience provided. The room, while cute and nicely apportioned, was very small and the bathroom cramped. The bar downstairs closed at 9:00. Both days the coffee bar was empty and they needed to be prompted to refill it. Breakfast was generous. At the end of the day, we did not get what we paid for.

Breakfast was healthy but needed more options. Price reasonable for our large Deluxe king room. Beds comfy.

Overall I really like this place. I mean the interior design is great and it has a cozy ambience. The room is clean and updated as well. Location wise it is downtown near restaurants and along the road. Also, parking is included and in the property. The only downside for us is we booked this place compare to others as it says “breakfast included” however the selection is not great and quite disappointing. Maybe, I’m just used to typical breakfast selections we had in previous hotel we’ve stayed in. Also, the few food selection is not labeled making it not allergy friendly. So I had to message front desk to bring up my nut allergy which I had some that does not look like it nuts since there is not really variety to choose from. Then she said that the biscuit may have nuts. I had it and I was fine but this could be something avoided. I feel like both party me and the staff could have known better though but could be avoided with proper labels. Overall, I recommend this place but maybe just do not expect much for the breakfast. And if you are coming during Winter time there are other hotels around the area that offers more amenities such as heated pools. They do have hot tub but you have to make an appointment.

Wonderful breakfast!

Limited selection for breakfast. Ground floor area ok but the rooms are in need of refurbishment. Room 206 is next to the kitchen fan that runs all night - avoid. Bathroom fan sounds like a jet engine so we didn’t use it. Why not replace the doors so they fit and upgrade locks to keyless.

Breakfast could have been hotter but we loved the choices. Great place to stay yet the main hotel is noisy with the bar and lobby area.

Breakfast is wonderful with fresh fruits and healthy choices.
