What guests think

At Spark by Hilton Mechanicsburg, reviews describe a convenient, budget-friendly stop with generally comfortable rooms and friendly staff, but also frequent renovation disruptions, inconsistent cleanliness, basic breakfast, and recurring issues with the pool, hot tub, gym equipment, and water pressure.

Many guests note highway noise and tricky, poorly lit access, though proximity to restaurants and the turnpike is a plus. Some rooms have odd layouts or dated finishes, and Wi-Fi can be unreliable. Service can be uneven, with reports of unprofessional interactions, poor communication about renovations or policies, and limited or no routine housekeeping. Expect a practical stay if you verify amenity availability and request a quiet room away from the highway.

Pretty good stay. King size bed was comfortable. Quiet in room at night. Pool closed for repairs… bummer since it was so hot. Water pressure on the fourth floor was not so good in the morning. Not a bad stay, but not excellent.

Perhaps after the construction is finished. But not till then. Arrived lay to find dog $#!+ on the floor in the foyer and lobby. Attendant didn’t acknowledge it. Got a room that smelled of turpentine. Asked for another. Attendant said he couldn’t do it because I booked through Expedia. Finally got room change. No hangers in new room. Went to desk - no hangers he says. Lots of hangers in the terpentine room. I can’t take those - they’re for another guest he says. “Can I get you anything else” he says dripping in sarcasm. “We’ll see”, I said. Breakfast was egg like pucks and ham like pucks. Pool closed. Business center closed. Gym closed. Whatever.

I should have been told that the hotel was under renovation. I could not even get a luggage rack to put my suitcase on and there were no drawers to put clothes in. I had no outlet in the bathroom. I asked all three days I stayed to have it fixed. It was never fixed. The pool was closed and the exercise room was ever so tiny. The hallways were very hot. My room was freshly painted so that was nice. They did not offer housekeeping.

Check in was easy, and staff was friendly. The bed was clean and decent, but the rest of the hotel left something to be desired in the way of cleanliness and upkeep. Our air-conditioning unit had mold growing on the vents. One of the bedside lamps was broken, the shower curtain rid was broken, the bathroom exhaust fan did not work, and was covered in layers of dust and dirt. There was dust and dirt in all the corners, and the doors, and even the tissue box cover looked like it hadn't been wiped down in several months. I guess at least we didn't see any bugs...

The property is not thoroughly cleaned. There were multiple issues with cleanliness in the room. Stains in the carpet, dirty light switches, dirty moldy sink with oodles of noodles in the drain, washcloths with lipstick stains. The metal on the nightstand covered in dirt as if it had never been wiped dow before. The shower is rusty.

Some staff were really rude (not the dining ladies. So helpful and kind) We witnessed a staff verbally accusing a father,in front of his entire family and all the families trying to eat, of taking water the night before. It was handled so unprofessionally. Blame, camera video, broadcasting in the entire lobby. They also announced our room number, loudly. If it wasnt my family behind me, I would have made them switch us. Not a safe thing to do when you're a female, alone. Water didn't run properly so couldnt bath my kids after the pool easily. We didnt realize there was no juice after 10am but the machine was still working. The manager, verbally degraded the worker and made us feel terrible, like we were stealing. Then proceeded to walk around on her phone saying "They didnt shut off the machine, stock the coffee, refill this and that..." Get a new front end manager. She was rude (April 27th morning) demeaning to the rest of the staff and lazy herself. We wont be back.

I check in on Tuesday 11/26/24 and was assigned room 414. The clerk was not quite surly, but defiantly NOT welcoming. The room was very clean and nice. The hotel was NOT anywhere close to being full. I would estimate it was about 1/2 full based on the number of cars in the lot. At about 3am on Thursday (Thanksgiving day) my room developed a ceiling leak over the bed. After calling the front desk, I was moved to a SMALLER room. The was no apology for the problem, and when checking out on Friday 11/29 I asked to see if I could be comped for 1 day ( it was a 3 night stay). I was told the Manager had to decide that. I left my contact information, and was told the MGR would call me after 9am. It is now a day later, and still NO call, NO apology, and NO action taken. I do not like or appreciate being taken for granted as a guest I will NOT be using this hotel again

Renovations are underway, and there was construction materials lying around in multiple locations. Open utility doors, wooden crates in the middle of the lobby, etc. My room was clean, but details were left undone; such as a phone that wasn't plugged into the wall, (and it didn't work when I did plug it in) and a clock on the night stand that was unplugged. Though I was given a wifi code at check-in, the wifi was not working. I texted the front desk and was told that I'd have come down to the lobby to use the wifi. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, all but one of the staff I met at the front desk was dressed very unprofessionally. (Inside out t-shirt, pink hoodie) They could have said when I first checked in; "We're sorry about the construction materials, we're under renovation." Those words were never said. When I checked out, the gentleman at the desk didn't even ask "how was your stay"? He somewhat reluctantly printed me a receipt and went on doing something else, barely acknowledging my existence as I exited the hotel. I have a conference every year in this town, I won't come to Wingate again.

Stayed for two nights for a local conference. The hotel was clean and the front desk reception was well trained and professional. My room was well apportioned and comfortable. As the hotel sits at a crossroads of two major highways, the traffic noise was expected, but not distracting. Signage into the hotel was either non-existant or I totally missed it. The access road is awkward at best. Very little light if you arriving for the first time after dark so it can be a bit disorienting. Love the shared access with the Cracker Barrel, and that is important as the breakfast at the hotel is very limited. I will definitely stay here again if looking for accomodations in the Mechanicsburg area. The pro's outweigh the con's.
