What guests think

At SureStay Plus Hotel by Best Western Coralville Iowa City, travellers highlight friendly staff, a handy location near I‑80 and the university, and budget-friendly value, while noting dated rooms, inconsistent cleanliness, and mixed breakfast execution.

Just above average but price was right. Unfortunately we were in a room adjacent to breakfast area so noisy when staff started prepping early in morning. Typical waffle breakfast , not a typical Best Western breakfast. Very small pool.

This was literally the best bed I have slept in at a hotel. I would have given a 5 star but there was a very heavy pet smell in the hall, didn’t smell in the room though so that was a huge plus. The pool was indoor but not heated or temp controlled so it was extremely cold even on a very hot day.

The corners of the bathroom were very dirty - you could see where the mop had pushed all of the dirt and grime into the corners every time they clean the floor. The walls were also VERY dirty in the bathroom. There were some sort of mites in the AC unit - perhaps dust or mold mites? Tiny crawling specks I only saw at night. Aside from those things, the bed linens and towels were clean, the pillows were comfortable, the shower was clean, and the folks were friendly. Breakfast was decent enough. Overall, for the price, the room was good enough. The room was clearly cleaned routinely, just not thoroughly. It could benefit from a deep clean.

Overall, not impressed for the price. We came in for an Iowa Hawkeyes game and checked in early so we could go to the stadium early. We knew we just wanted to drop our stuff off and get going. The floor looked like it had not been vacuumed. There was a sticky spot on the ground next to where the TV was and almost ruined a pair of my shoes. The bathroom was tiny and the cracked surrounding tub and floor did not look clean and the shower drain was broken. We also had an issue with little gnats hanging around the bathroom sink as we probably killed 10-20 gnats in less than 24 hour stay. It is a decent location from the stadium and not a far drive so that is good but for the price and the condition, we saw it in, we would not stay again. We did not want to try to find another room as we weren't going to be there long and knew it was busy for the game, but was not the cleanest.

The shower was not cleaned well (if at all). There were a lot of dark curly hairs on the wall and in the bathtub. The hallways smelled very musty. The ac/heating unit was very loud. There was VERY LITTLE water pressure in the shower (it was difficult to get my shampoo out)

I liked the water bottle refill station and the different flush options on the toilet. I did not like that our tub/shower did not drain properly, the bugs in our sink each night, the blood stains on our sheets, the smell of the room, the fact that the bathroom door did not fully close, or the breakfast.

While the desk staff was phenomenal. Our room was absolutely disgusting. There were crumbs and stains on the armchair that were never cleaned despite requesting multiple times over our stay. There was a large red spot on the floor that looked to be vomit. And the room didn't appear to have been dusted... in a long time. This includes the dead bugs I found behind my nightstand. It's unfortunate this ruined our otherwise great stay. I'll have to say that we will not be returning in the future.

You can tell this hotel is slowly renovating. The main floor looks amazing. But as soon as you get on the elevator it looks really old and dirty. My room was nice enough, there were some newer touches and the bed was comfy. I had to put a towel down in the shower because it was either not clean or was just hadn't been replaced yet. Overall it was a fine stay, worth the $76 price tag.

Room looked very sharp and neat but it was musty and we ended up having sinus trouble all night. Bathtub/toilet area was cramped and not as clean as it could have been on the floor but the water was hot. My biggest gripe is that we needed the hotel on a game day where room prices are doubled so for over $220. I do understand this is how they all are and im lucky to have found a hotel in the 1st place. Desk lady was excellent, breakfast was breakfast. Id stay again if it wasn't a game day and the room wasn't musty.

We recently stayed at this hotel for two nights, we were in town for a wrestling tournament. Saturday evening when we returned to our room it was not cleaned while we were gone. No fresh clean towels or washcloths, I called the front desk and spoke with one agent that past me off to the manager, after telling him the issue, he didn’t apologize. He said that there was nothing they could do and rudely hung up the phone. Customer Service goes a long and I am very displeased with theirs.

The staff member who eventually helped us was very friendly, polite and genuinely helpful, but only after another guy left us there for some time. Once we were assigned a room we headed up, only to find upon keying into our room (at 11:30PM) there were people already in there! Shocked, we ran back out and downstairs (myself, husband and 9/12 year olds). The staff apologized and had to call manager, informing us the hotel was sold out (though reservations were made weeks ago). We were told the only room available was a king with a pull out bed, now almost midnight and having driven 4.5 hours, we really had no other option to accept the too small for our family room. Breakfast was fine and the same polite staff greeted us in the morning. Upon checkout we crossed paths with the family we intruded upon in the middle of the night. Awkward. Based on other conversations, even with our own family arriving earlier, there were instances of being assigned dirty rooms. Hoping for them this was a one off weekend, but it started our faction off in a strange way for sure!

The hotel is so was good, the beds were comfy, and it was clean. The worst part about our stay was going down to breakfast. My husband and I went down at 8:30 and we're shocked and how the kitchen staff kept it so poorly clean. Not only that, at exactly 9:02 a.m. she took all food away and unplugged all the machines even though people for walking in and many were still eating breakfast. She was a very disgruntled worker. I know that there has to be a cut off at some point for breakfast, but this was also on a weekend where people do sleep in later. This was the rudest kitchen staff that we had ever met.
