I was excited to book this property having used the bar many times when I lived in DC around the time the hotel opened. The “first floor” is underground and has no windows. The room has little to no amenities. Coffee machine broken, replacement machine which came hour later came with wrong pods. Additional incorrect pods came after another hour long wait in the morning. Both bar areas were closed for a private event and unusable. None of the phone lines to room service or restaurant worked from the hotel room. Would book the Riggs instead - amazing bar there.

Horribly overpriced. Horribly overrated. Not ADA friendly. Steps and stairs everywhere. Have to ask for water. Have to ask for a coffee maker in the room. Only one chair in the room. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash stored on sink, not in shower. Very inconvenient.

Very disappointing stay . We travel frequently and this by far was sub-par. The reception desk staff acted as if we were bothering them from check-in to check out. The complimentary social hour staff, however, were welcoming and friendly. Regarding the rooms…. I have never seen a flat bedsheet thrown over an uncovered duvet! Horrible! For the price of the room, a duvet cover should absolutely be standard! The bar was advertised to be open until 11pm/12am. Both nights we were there the bar closed at 8pm!!!! With no notice or communication !!! Location was great but please stay at a different nearby hotel.

The hotel is hit or miss. Much depends on the room you get. Some are supposedly wonderful and large. Some are in basement (what they call 1st floor) with limited windows. Ours was ok, clearly an office that had been converted, with a bathroom built into the room, which looked odd and created an L shape. Some of the windows were covered by a massive headboard. In all it felt a bit thoughtlessly put together. Not sure it's worth the price, esp with the $30/day amenity fee they tack on (which I had no idea what it was for).

A historic hotel in the heart of DC. Very convenient and walkable to restaruants, shopping, and tourist sites. The staff was very friendly and helpful, checking in and out was quick and efficent. The valet parking service was also gast and friendly. Will definitely be staying here again.

This hotel is amazing. The history, the architecture, the rooms, the hallways, everything has such great attention to detail. The employees all are super nice and helpful. Very welcoming staff that makes you feel right at home. Dirty Habit bar, the location of the old post office, is so so so good. Amazing chill dark ambience. The location is walkable to restaurants, museums, cap one arena and more! As amazing as this stay was, the only issue I had was the extremely unclean and dusty air vent directly above the shower. I honestly thought one of these dust balls would fall on me showering. I’m 6’ 2’’ so the vent was very close to me head already. With all the attention to detail, the history, and great ratings I found this lack of cleanliness very surprising. As gross as it was it did not affect the stay. I will be still be back. Hopefully the vents will be clean next time

This is the second time I’ve stayed at this property in the last 5 months. The first time, it was absolutely incredible. The staff was amazing and it was the only reason I came back to this hotel for this trip. The staff, specifically the lady at the front desk was horrible! She was rude and not welcoming. The toilet in the room had dried urine on the seat. Overall, I’m reminded that staff make or break the experience. I probably won’t be coming back, there are plenty hotels in the area. Just bummed out how different the experiences were. One amazing, where we decided we’d only want to stay at that hotel to this time where I don’t imagine we’d come back. Extremely disappointed.

The hotel is an old building so it had a smell once you get to the rooms, It’s not a modern hotel. My initial room was not thoroughly cleaned. A used cup and a used face mask was left in the room. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and switch my room. Overall not a fan of this particular hotel.

The room with a queen bed we stayed in was by far the smallest hotel room we've ever stayed in. A bigger person would not have been able to fit between the foot of the bed and the opposite wall (where the TV is mounted), in order to move from the side of the room with the door and bathroom to the side with the desk and most readily accessible outlets. The place was clean, but our room was located on the "1st" floor, which is sub street level (and below the lobby) and smelled musty. The room itself actually smelled damp. We considered asking for a different room, but the schedule for the convention we were in town for was tight, so we just dealt with it for the hours we were in the room to sleep. The food at the restaurant is good, the staff is very polite, and I appreciate that they highlight the automatic gratuity on the check. I found it a little strange that, though they walk by the tables frequently, you essentially have to flag someone down to ask for the check, a to go box, etc. No one ever even stopped in to check on my meal or ask if I wanted water.

An upscale place, with morning coffee and a free flowing, friendly wine reception at 5:00 o'clock. The location is fantastic for food choices, transportation and theater. Our room was very clean and quiet, but the airport carpet and somewhat faded striped curtains were off-putting. The 15 feet ceilings and windows were amazing. And the architecture and general decor were noteworthy. A truly unique place, priced accordingly.

What a great hotel! Perfect location for seeing the sights and getting around. Room was large and clean and comfortable. Staff lovely, super helpful and friendly. Nothing was a problem. I was booked in for 6 nights and had been allocated a basement room with no windows for the duration of my stay. Not sure why anyone would do this but managed to arrange a room change with no fuss. Definitely recommend and would stay here if ever back in DC… although I would specify no basement room.

Beautiful hotel in great location The room was very attractive and bedding was comfortable. Although the layout was poor. and the air conditioning vent faced a window in an alcove blowing cold air only in that space. which made the room very hot. No drawer storage for our clothing Our first night there was terrible banging music over our room until 5 AM. Staff was very unfriendly and not very attentive in general. With exception to the bellmen at the door. They were all wonderful. Service at bars and restaurants also unfriendly. With exception of waiters in the restaurant

Nice stay, the rooms were spacious. I wished the beds were larger. I haven't slept in a Full bed in a long time. Being a tall person my feet hung off end of bed. The architecture was beautiful.

The good: This is a lovely rehabilitated historic building; we loved our room, the tall ceilings and wide hallways. We also enjoyed a drink at the bar. Our first night's stay was fine after the party in the courtyard ended around 9 p.m. Unfortunately, the second night was a nightmare. The people in the neighboring room on the second night of our stay were extremely loud, leading us to check out at 2 a.m. and drive home rather than put up with the noise any longer. We did contact hotel staff earlier in the evening, who followed up with them, but to no avail - after a brief period, they resumed the loud talking, and their dog barked on several occasions. There were also children running and making noise in the halls both nights, long past the time when small children should have been in bed. We may have simply been unlucky, but the experience was miserable.

It is a nice hotel in a historic building…The first night I had to stay on the first floor which is half way under ground, like a basement. The room was clean but had a moldy smell and felt dark and claustrophobic. But when rooms opened up next day, they moved me to second floor which was super nice and had no smell. So, it’s a good hotel if you stay second or third floors.

The stars of the monaco are the front office staff whom will attend to all your needs in a timely friendly and professional manner . I regularly stay at Kimpton Hotels for work trips, and have never had such a terrible experience. Staff was rude, absent, and unwilling to help throughout my stay. My room was not ready for check-in and despite paying for a suite, I was placed in a regular room that overlooked the loud hotel bar. I asked to move numerous times. Additionally, I was delivered an incorrect breakfast order and staff was not willing to help fix the issue. I spoke with a manager numerous times throughout my two night stay, and no improvements were made to improve my experience. I do not plan to stay in this hotel again and intend to share that feedback with my organization and friends.

Room wasn't ready. Phone and many amenities in the room didn't work. The front desk woman who checked me in was not helpful and gave me a room in the basement where the amenities didn't work. The second person who helped me at the desk was helpful and open to finding a new room. Overall, I probably wouldn't stay here again.

We love this hotel - we travel a lot and think it’s one of the prettiest we’ve stayed in - the architecture is fabulous and the design is fun. We also have two dogs and love that Kimptons are dog friendly. The location is perfect to walk to all the major museums and sites and there are plenty of restaurants nearby.

This hotel is in an elegant, historic building in a very walkable part of Washington. Its close to many major landmarks, and the restaurant and bar attract not just tourists but locals too. We will definitely stay here again when we visit DC.

Great location! Adjacent to metro stop, National Portrait Gallery across street, neighborhood full of shops and restaurants. Walking distance to museums and mall. Hotel rooms comfortable and love the architecture of common areas. Ate and drank at Dirty Habit twice. Restaurant staff made excellent suggestions and we enjoyed the meals. Definitely a new favorite for us in DC

Nice hotel that’s well-located for sightseeing. The hotel is starting to fray around the edges, but it still feels clean. The on-site bar and restaurant was a good place to grab a drink and brunch, but the prices are surprisingly steep. I’m not sure what the $30 resort fee was for as there’s nothing besides the room that we didn’t have to pay for separately.

Just a little too hip for its own good. I liked the vaulted ceiling in my room; didn't love the giant lion's head mounted above the bed, and grateful that this property isn't in an earthquake zone. Also didn't love the toilet that took 3 tries to flush even toilet paper; the literally block-long walk to get to my room (and no closer way in, although I could exit thru a side door) and no coffee maker in the room, nor in the lobby on Sunday until 8:30am. Also wasn't so happy that there's a full flight of stairs to lug your bags up to get into the hotel, and there isn't anyone standing outside to ask if you need help. Even in the lobby when i left, no one thought to offer me help carrying my full-size suitcase back down the stairs. To top it off, breakfast was downright depressing. I was the only one there at 7:30 in the morning, yet I was uncomfortably seated in the bar area rather than a normal table (because I was alone? but there was literally no one at any of the other tables...) My breakfast, which to their credit they did comp, included the worst eggs benny I've ever experienced-- poached eggs with the yolks a little gelled (like they sat in a sous-vide bag or something) and felt like a cold jellyfish in the mouth; equally cool and kinda damp english muffin; tiny dollop of thin hollandaise. Eeeyuck, hope the other entrees were better.

Great hotel. Beautiful architecture. Super Friendly and knowledgeable staff. So convenient to the metro and surrounded by a plethora of restaurant dining options. Liked the hotel restaurant (Dirty Habits) although they were out of 3 signature cocktails and had limited liquor selection. Otherwise A experience overall.

Beautiful remodeled historic post office within walking distance of convention center, China town, and many landmarks. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Great amenities- free morning coffee, nightly wine hour, pet friendly, yoga mat and umbrella in the room. Don't bother ordering room service- the eggs were overcooked, the toast was underdone, and the latte had no foam at outrageous price with a hefty delivery fee and tip added on to the already high price.
