What guests think

At America's Best Value Inn of Novato, travellers highlight good prices and generally friendly staff, but also an older, worn property with inconsistent cleanliness, firm beds, traffic and train noise, limited parking, and frequent pool or hot tub closures.

Rooms feel dated, with small TVs and sparse furnishings, though some are spacious and a few include balconies or in-room jacuzzis. Breakfast is very limited—mostly muffins and cereal—and can end early. Overall, expect a budget stay that trades price and access for comfort and polish.

Pool and Hot Tub were down along with half of the available parking. Had to park illegally around the corner from the Hotel. We needed an extra cot in the room and was hit with a 15.00 up-charge.This may have been an opportunity for management to gain some face by giving a break on the cot fee.

Honestly... I don't understand the "bad" reviews. This is actual a nice place ... kind of the "best kept secret". Sure ... it is dated ... but trying to be updated as they go. (When was the last time you were in a granite tiled shower.) A HEATED POOL" ... WOW ... good hot tub to sit in and go between the two. Rooms were clean / orderly. All in all ... a nice place (especially for the price in the area).

Office help minimal. Disrepair everywhere you look inside and out. ‘Breakfast’ consists of muffins, cold cereal, 2 juices and luke warm coffee with only dry creammer packs. Woke up second day to hundreds of ants swarming the bathroom floor (our feet) and tub with a stream going to garbage can. No AAA discount on top of it all.

This is my third stay there. It’s quiet, clean and the only bad thing I can say is that I had to use my hotspot to watch the tv. The refrigerator wasn’t working properly either, but these things happen and I’m sure they will fix it. I’m sure I’ll stay there again just for the in-room jaccuzi.

I've lived in Novato for a number of years so I knew the area and wasn't too concerned, but I was unfamiliar with this hotel. Rooms were dingy and dirty. Sheets did not look clean. A pubic hair was found on the sheets of one of the beds. The shower did not work, only bath. Though they repaired it while I was out the first day. Toilet seat is stained deep yellow. Bathroom grout appeared moldy. The breakfast was raisin bran, frosted flakes or half a costco muffin. On my last morning, they were out of coffee and refused to make any. They were out of bowls, so atleast I put my unused coffee cup to use. I could not get out of there fast enough.

This Motel is clean, organized, and has what you need in a room: TV, table and chair, Coffee maker, free parking, free Wifi, plenty of lighting, balcony, separate sink from bathroom, built-in hair dryer, built-in soap/shampoo dispensers, Microwave, mini-fridge, deadbolt and partial open door lock, HVAC unit. Elevator to the 3 floors. As the name says, it is a very good value Inn. Only positives/negatives is close to transporation, which is US-101 freeway, but also the local train comes through in the morning, and you get the warning bell gonging, so if you are not an early riser, this may wake you up.

Only complaint is wood floor had damage and lifting slightly, bathroom around edges were grungy. Needs a lot of updating(care). You get a fantastic price so it is nothing fancy. The staff is so friendly and it is an easy on and off the highway. We have stayed here many times but this time was not as good as the others. The television is very small. There is no comfy chairs in the room or a table. And the bed was horribly uncomfortable, like sleeping on a piece of plywood. I hope they work on the furnishings a little.

The hotel tried to charge my card before i even got to the room. I keep my cards locked until i use them, so since they couldn't charge my card without my permission theg canceled my room. I chose the option to pay when i arrived, not before. So the hotel canceled my room, then i had to drive back home 2 hours away cause i couldn't secure a room for the holiday weekend cause everything was extremely high cause of memorial day. I very much upset about the whole experience cause it cost so much money to drive back and forth this weekend. Very unacceptable.

All in all the room, lobby and hospitalty staff were good. The problem was with the receptionist at the desk contacted us at seven am to inform us that our check out time was that day at eleven. Our booking was confirmed through eleven am the following day! Upon approaching her at the desk to resolve any possible error, she was very insistent that she was correct and extremely rude in her diplomacy. Even with the itinerary proof she did not care to listen. She then proceeded to exit the building and left us with nobody else present. It was an hour before someone else became available.

This people ask for $100 deposit and then steal it. They plan never to give it back to you. I checked out 30 minutes early and gave them their keys back. The lady on duty said bye as if that was it. I said " can i have my $100 deposit back?" She thought i forgot about what i have a receipt for. She said we have to check the room. Now they never gave room service any night i was there. She said they will keep my deposit because oil was on the bed. Whatever was in the sheets was there before i came. I never pulled back the covers even. What i had on the bed was my suitcase of clothing. No oil in them. All my products where sitting on the sink. They lied on me stole my money. Then called the cops to defend their lie.The cops were rude and told me to leave the property and sue them. It's aweful that you have to steal from customers. I would never refer anyone to this location and i will never go again. Aweful experience!

Recall also, i had 2 separate reservations. I did not do what they said i did. They stole my $100 cash deposit then lied to me and the cops. I made 2 reservations. Why did they not mention this on the first one? They kicked my door in because it would not open for me on the outside. Room 312. Horribleexperience. I know they were listening to my conversations which is an invasion of privacy. Then when they didn't like what they heard then they do evil things. Customer service is poor too. This behavior is not acceptable and i suggest you always take your business elsewhere. NEVER BOOK AT THIS PLACE.

The heating/air unit was strong, but noisy. The tub drain was not working so I could not take a bath. None of the rooms had grab rails for the bathroom tub. No handicap accessible rooms except for the room being on the first floor and a small ramp to the parking lot. The hotel is well located- just off the freeway. Pros: The staff are wonderful! They were very helpful. the grounds are well kept. It's within easy walking distance if the SMART Train. There is camera surveillance so there's not a lot of rowdiness, grocery stores are nearby, and it has a working elevator. The trash is picked up daily from the trash cans. There is laundry on site and a pool . The room was sparse but clean- lots of pillows and curiously, one bed was soft and the other was extra firm. They are pet friendly for an extra $10/day. There is breakfast of muffins and cereal. Cons: people can't seem to remember what trash cans are for so there was trash in the parking lot daily. The elevator needs a good scrubbing and the walkways to the rooms need to be hosed down. The train runs right next to the hotel and it's loud. Fortunately it runs relatively daylight hours. There's a railroad crossing right in front of the hotel so the bells and train horns go off intermittently. (I didn't know the train was right there when I booked) it's an older hotel so you can hear the party next door but the rooms are better insulated than most. Yes, you can hear the traffic noise. No, the pool was not available.
