What guests think

Hotel San Francisco Plaza draws praise for its charming historic courtyards, central walkability to Guadalajara’s sights, and generally friendly staff, while repeated critiques focus on nightlife noise, dated rooms, spotty Wi‑Fi, and uneven maintenance and cleanliness.

The immediate area is very central but several guests felt unsafe after dark due to nearby bars. Rooms range from spacious and charming to small and basic, with frequent comments about hard beds. Parking is off site or limited, and on-site dining has been inconsistent or closed. Expect a budget-friendly, character stay best for travelers who prioritize location over modern polish.

My experience is sort of a "Good News / Bad News" situation. My first stay was fantastic! My room was large and comfortable. It featured little french doors to a tiny balcony that overlooked an interior courtyard where songbirds in a large cage greeted me every morning. I loved it and looked forward to my next visit. My most recent visit I was assigned a small room not much larger than a prison cell. No balcony; no french doors. No songbirds. The windows wouldn't even open to get some fresh air circulating. Still, the staff is friendly and helpful. The housekeeping is first-rate. I like the location for shopping and sight-seeing. I may stay again in the future, but the tiny, sterile room of my most recent visit has left me with a bad memory.

Great location. Huge rooms. AC. Fantastic longtime staff. They'll send out your laundry. Lots of hot water. If you get a streetside room, sometimes it can be a little noisy. Great taco stand, ice cream and coffee with 50 meters of the front door. There are a few bars around, which some ppl may not like, but no problems at all. I stay here frequently

The rooms are very outdated. No refrigerator, ice nor long mirror. Restroom is tiny, very hard to even shower on a shower without a full door. You can hear everything that goes on in the room next to you therefore they are not soundproof as advertised. I would NOT recommend this hotel if you want a comfortable stay. The bed is stiff as a board..

Great location. A couple issues the door did not lock unless you slammed it, sorry to my neighbor lol did not work any better after I reported it. I extended my stay 2 days took me trip 5 trips to front desk to confirm i can stay in same room and get new updated key card, apparently personal who do reservations only work periodically, was not resolved until i was locked out of my room. I have stay here many times and will in the future as i think this was just a 1 off and not the norm for this economical gem in centro.

The hotel itself was clean but very basic. Rock hard mattress with the worst hardest pillows ever imaginable. We were wormed by a tour guide and a cab driver how dangerous the neighborhood was. At night the square immediately outside the hotel is full of homeless people and drug addicts. In the day the homeless use the fountain to wash clothes and then drink and sleep. If you have kids or a family, or plan on being out past dark, do not use this hotel. I’m a tall big guy and I felt really unsafe. Pay a few bucks more for a hotel near the university or cathedral and be safe. Breakfast was 300 pesos which was just ok… better can be found in the site seeing areas easily I will definitely not return.

I have stayed at this hotel countless times. It’s minutes to the center of the historic plaza on foot. Definitely in the heart of the city. It’s urban and surrounded by great cheap restaurants and shopping. If you’re looking for culture and hustle bustle this historical hotel is awesome. You’ll enjoy the architectural archway, the antique art. The rooms are not fancy, but they’re really fun.

I liked the typical Guadalajara style structure, the buffet, just beautiful scenery everywhere. We didn't have any extras such as a mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer, iron and an extra mirror in the room. Overall it was nice and they did have a concierge where we purchased our tickets to some of the city's tours and attractions.
