Awesome location, excellent and helpful staff, good night sleep. The rooftop bar is a must . Were able to watch parade from the balcony and acropolis’s view . Had a great time in Athens.

The King George Hotel is just about as perfect as you can get in a hotel. The staff is nice, helpful and caring. We arrived early and since our room wasn't ready they suggested we wait in the lobby lounge and brought us hot tea. During the day there are large dispensers of ice tea or cold water to help yourself. They also have complimentary English editions of the New York Times for Greece, with a couple pages in the back devoted to Greece. Our room faced Syntagma Square and from our balcony we could sit and watch the hourly changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier and listen to music played in the square. Our room was spacious and the bed was lovely. There was a sitting area, almost like a studio apartment. The bathroom was equally spacious with lots of nice amenities. I would have liked a mat in the shower for extra safety and if I'd asked, I'm sure one would have appeared. We splurged on the rooftop restaurant and enjoyed the sunset and seeing the Acropolis light up. We also had a lovely afternoon tea at the adjacent Grande Bretagne's Winter Garden, where one tea for two is plenty. The King George is centrally located and most of downtown Athens is within walking distance. The National Garden is nearby as is shopping from luxury to bargain. The staff always welcomed us when we walked in and offered advice and help when requested. It really is a most wonderful hotel and it was difficult to leave knowing nothing else on our trip would come close to it.

I called the front desk requesting to check in about 2 hours prior to checkin and I was told that I would be accommodated. When I arrived I had been traveling for many hours, I was exhausted and wanted to shower before a scheduled tour. Instead I was not allowed to checkin when I got there and had to sit in the lobby for an extended period. For a room that was over $800/night that’s completely unacceptable. The room was nice and clean but we could not open the door on the balcony so that feature was a waste of additional money for the room. The hotel otherwise has great security, the bell staff and doorman were very helpful.
